HELEN MARY GRYMONPRE
(CHARENKO)
October 9, 1928 - November 27, 2021

It is with much sadness that we announce the death of our Mother, Helen.
She was predeceased by her son Michael in 1982 and her older brother Alfred this November 23. She is survived by her children, Ilona, Darrell, Rosalind, and Elaine, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Helen was born in Winnipeg and graduated from Central School in Transcona in 1945 receiving the Governor General's Medal. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1949, Bachelor of Social Work in 1953, and her Masters of Social Work in the 1970s while raising her family of five.
She worked for a time at Osborne House, and later at the Dafoe Library at the University of Manitoba.
Helen was a gifted musician and played violin with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra from the time of their first concert and for several years after.
She had unrelenting loyalty to her children and an uncommon gentleness that allowed her to appreciate the smallest miracles that nature provided. Many small creatures were brought into our lives for her to nurse. Plants both indoors and out flourished under her care. She loved, nourished, and encouraged her children through very difficult years and has our gratitude and love.
We would like to give special thanks to her caregivers at Tuxedo Villa where she spent her last years.
A family celebration of her life has been held. Viewing is to take place Monday, December 6 at Thomson in the Park at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at 12:00 noon.
In memory of Helen, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We are sorry to hear of your mom's passing and your uncle. Praying that you may have much peace at this time. I lost my husband Walter in July, its not an easy time. We all met Darryl when we went to him for our dental, while we were in Winnipeg. Back in B.C. since 1995. I know your grandparents well and have many memories of transcend. We also have another cousin in Wpg. from Ukraine. My dad's cousin. My dad is 96 at Holy Family. I guess our family has longevity. May your New Year be filled with many great memories. Blessings Mary Pedersen - Posted by: Mary Charenko pedersen (2nd cousins) on: Dec 28, 2021
