JEAN KRISTJANSON
(nee CAMERON)
1935 - 2021

Jean passed away peacefully December 1, 2021, at the age of 86.
She was predeceased by her husband Leo and her great-grandson Will. She is survived by her children, Terri (Brian) Wintonyk, Darryl Kristjanson, Brenda (Darrell) Hinz and Johanne Kristjanson, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Jean was raised on a farm near Moore Park, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg at the age of 16 to complete high school and enrol in nurses training at Winnipeg General Hospital. It was when she was in Grade 12 at United College that she met Leo, the love of her life. They eventually settled in Saskatoon to raise their four children. Mom made sure we had the ability to experience a host of sports and cultural opportunities, some of which we appreciated more than others at the time but are so grateful now. Mom and Dad were a true partnership that allowed Leo to accomplish much in his career. She always looked for ways to support and care for her family, friends and community. When she and Leo retired to Gimli, they were both determined to contribute and be active in the community. Mom involved herself with many groups including the hospital auxiliary, curling and leading the Huldufolk Moms, a project dear to her heart that with friendship, laughter and good coffee breaks created and sold dolls to support community projects. Leo's later years were such that being his caregiver became a big part of her life and she embraced every moment of making his life as comfortable as possible. She also took up golfing, leading to many treasured friendships. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved them beyond bounds. She was game for many world travel adventures with her children and grandchildren, thrilled to see the world through their eyes. She was adamant as she started her journey through her later years that she did not want her children to bear full responsibility for her care and found a home at Betel for her remaining years. The family is grateful for the compassionate care she received there. She will be remembered by her family for her compassionate, gentle and direct nature.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
A fully virtual memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 8 at 1:00 p.m. A livestream will be available through the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre website link: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/jean-kristjanson A Celebration of Life is planned for the upcoming summer.

  • I miss your Mom, she was often someone I visited with when I was in town in my early years in Gimli and whose company and knowledge I always enjoyed. I think Covid prevented lots of people from visiting over the past years. I saw he only once this past summer when one of you had her out for a walk. My condolences to all the family. - Posted by: Isabel Peterson (Friend) on: Dec 05, 2021

  • I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom and my mom Alyce where daily walking partners in all seasons for many years and then neighbours at Betel. You where wonderful caregivers to your mom. Our folks will all be enjoying each other’s company again - Posted by: Maureen McKinnon Boy e (Friend ) on: Dec 04, 2021

  • So very sad to hear this news. My mother was a dear friend for many years to Leo and your Mom. Together they gardened for Leos garden, sewed hundreds of Huldefolk and enjoyed hours of volunteering together. Thinking of you and your family. She is reunited with your Dad. ❤️ - Posted by: Shirley Krulicki (Friend ) on: Dec 04, 2021

  • I met Jean at Northern Air Golf course and enjoyed golfing with her and later at the Links Ladies group. A kind sweet lady. Also, former neighbours if ours in Saskatoon knew your Mom and Dad. I believe Herve Langlois knew your Dad through the University of Saskatoon. Condolences to the whole family. May your memories and love carry you through this difficult time.
