ELIZABETH GERALDINE MCFARLANE
(BENSON)
November 11, 1931 December 3, 2021
She was predeceased by her loving husband Charles, parents, Frederick and Kathleen Benson and brothers, Edward (Ted) and Walter. Left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Pat Cunningham of Winnipeg, Gail Meriam of Cochrane, Alberta, son William (Nina) of Nestor Falls, Ontario, daughter Susan McKendry (Jim) of Winnipeg and son Gordon (Cathy) of Bird's Hill. Besides her children she leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was a true North Ender to the core. Raised on Salter Street, she often referred to the North End as a miniature United Nations. In 1960, along with Charlie and her children, she moved into the family home off Mountain Avenue, where she continued to reside until being transferred to St. Boniface Hospital on November 23rd of this year. Mom continually said her greatest treasures were her children and her commitment to our well-being extended to her final days. When informed by medical staff that she would most likely pass away if treatment for her heart issue was terminated, she replied, "What is best for my children is okay with me."
The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the staff of ward 4E and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their tireless efforts, both in keeping our mother as comfortable and pain free as possible, as well as allowing her to die with dignity.
As per Mom's wishes cremation has taken place. Interment of our parents' ashes will take place in a private ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
"Mom, you were a wonderful mother.
We will miss you dearly."

I remember when I was a very small girl in Fisherton on the farm, Betty and Cfarlie would visit the Stapleton's and stop at our place. Always looked forward to the visit as they always brought something , Halloween candies and used toys that their kids out grew. Reconnected with them years later while working at GardenCity Shoppong Centre. Betty was always such a classy , friendly lady. She is now with Charlie again. RIP sweet lady. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Janice Kudelski (Davis) (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2021
