JANE SMITH
She is now in heaven celebrating with "daddy," something she had been looking forward to.
Jane was predeceased by her husband Sterling; parents, John and Mary Hepner; children, Marilyn, Johnny, Heather Dawn and her brothers, John, Bill and Tony.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Barb Larson (Brian), Beverly Comeau (Ted), Kathy Harmon (Wayne), Melinda Constantine; sister Irene Sowa; brothers, Gordon Hepner (Cathy), Tom Hepner (Ruth) and Dan Hepner (Carol); grandchildren, Lisa, Jeffrey, David, Melissa, Daniel and Rick; and great- grandchildren, Lily, Lukas and Olivia.
Jane was born and raised in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on October 14, 1934 and this is where she met the love of her life, a young airman named Sterling Smith, to whom she was married for 61 years before he passed in 2014. They moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family and in their retirement, moved to Calgary, Alberta and then to Nanaimo, BC before returning to Winnipeg to be near their family.
Jane was devoted to her husband and family. She and Sterling loved to go out for coffee or a meal and had great fun playing board games with their family. Jane had a great love of music and an innate talent for interior decorating; always putting her special touches on her home, yard, or apartment wherever she lived. Her faith was very important to her and she loved to read the bible and listen to old hymns.
In their early retirement years, Jane and Sterling took several trips in their high-top van, through Canada, the US and down to Mexico, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
We would like to thank the staff for the wonderful care she received at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg in the last months of her life.
A small private family memorial gathering will be held and interment will be in the spring.
