IRENE STEVENS
(nee CHURCHER)
January 1, 1917 - December 3, 2021

Irene passed away peacefully at the Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home with family by her side. She was a supportive and loving mother who will be sadly missed.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her daughters, Geri (Bill), Diane (John), Linda; grandchildren, Ainslie (Greg), Leigh (Meera), Jenna (Derek) and Hayden (Crystal). Most recently she welcomed her first great-grandchild Cale, who brought Irene so much joy in her last few months.
Irene was predeceased by Hector, her husband of 55 years; her sisters, Verna and Gwen; and her brothers, Allan and Hart.
Irene was born in Winnipeg on New Year's Day, 1917 to Ernest and Jean Churcher. In 1943 she married Hector Stevens. In the early years Irene worked part time at Eaton's but devoted most of her time to raising their three daughters. Later on Hector and Irene enjoyed numerous vacations throughout Canada and the United States. For many years Irene played canasta with a close group of neighbourhood friends. Modest in character, Irene possessed a deep appreciation for her friends and family and displayed an unrelenting generosity to everyone who crossed her path.
Following Hector's passing in 1998, Irene moved to the Boulton Assisted Living Residence. During her 15 years at the Boulton she made many new friends and developed a love for the Blue Bombers. She had fond memories of her time there.
Irene was the embodiment of sweetness, the kindest woman who never lost her curiosity and keen sense of humour. She was incredibly resilient, living to be one month shy of 105 years.
Thanks to the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their compassionate care of our mother.
In accordance with Irene's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.

  • My most heartfelt feelings go out to the family of Mrs. Stevenson on the untimely passing of the family's matriarch. - Posted by: Philip (Not related) on: Dec 14, 2021

  • My deepest condolences to the family of Irene, we spent many hours together doing FaceTime visits to keep the family connected. I loved spending time with her joking about sneaking her a rum, showing her pictures of my family. She was a beautiful soul and loved her dearly! Sending Geri, Diane and Linda much love xoxo - Posted by: Kelly Harris (Former Recreation Therapist at MHC) on: Dec 11, 2021
