RONALD JAMES CHRISTIE
March 24, 1954 - November 17, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Ron, after complications from heart transplant surgery, with his loving partner Joanne by his side.
Ron will be dearly missed and always remembered by his life partner Joanne and her family, our dog Krissie; brothers, Doug (Cathy) and family, Grant (Angie) and family. Ron will be sadly missed by cousins, nieces, nephews and many relatives here and overseas. Ron held a special place in his heart for Jan's grandchildren.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, John (Jack), Lillian (Lil), brother Allan, as well as grandparents, Nana (Janet) and Bobba (Jock) (mom's parents), uncle Jim, aunt Helen and partner Jan.
On July 14 Ron suffered a massive heart attack which resulted in being attached to a heart machine to keep him alive. He was a fighter and became well enough to be accepted on the heart transplant list. Finally on November 12 Ron and Joanne went by medical plane to Ottawa. Ron survived the surgery and was recovering but a couple days later his body started to fail and even after medical procedures he just couldn't overcome this hurdle and went to join his brother and parents.
Ron grew up in Winnipeg then moved to East St. Paul and never left the community. Ron loved sports, played most but excelled at swimming and water polo, he was a member of the East Kildonan YMCA. He was a good curler and won a number of bonspiels. Ron was an avid outdoorsman - loved fishing, hunting, quadding, snowmobiling, driving his motorcycle, water skiing and water sports, and being at Otter Falls then later also at Wallace Lake with Joanne. He loved getting together with family and friends doing these activities. He was a proud member of the Henderson Legion for many years.
Ronnie had a great group of friends and if you were his friend, it was forever. Ronnie was always there to help when needed or to just sit and reminisce over beers. He worked for the City of Winnipeg then became an owner/operator for CNTL. He made many friends there helping each other out.
A special thank you to the outstanding care Ron received by the St. Boniface Cardiac team for his four month recovery leading up to his transplant surgery in Ottawa.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held on December 20, 2021 at Henderson Legion #215, 215 Maxwell King Drive, East St. Paul from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Proof of vaccination required.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice.

We will always carry your
memory in our hearts

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • My deepest sympathy to Joanne and the Christie family. My late husband Doug (Bugsy 2018) was a long time friend of Ron and his family. My husband grew up in Seven Sisters Falls and spent many years getting into mischief with Ron at the Lake and in Winnipeg. When work took Doug to Winnipeg, Ron and Wendy gave him a place to live for as long as he wanted. As time went by we married and enjoyed lots of fun events with Ron and Janice. Ron loved to take our kids on boat rides and chill out with our family over a cold one. Ron spent many Saturday nights at the legion, chatting up my parents, making my mom blush with his antics of wanting to marry her. Ron had a big heart. I hope him and Doug are sharing a cold beer and watching over us all. Our hearts are with you at this very sad time. Laura Hertzog - Posted by: Laura Hertzog (Friend) on: Dec 20, 2021

  • I've known Ron my whole life. He was my Dad's (Don Beverley) best friend. Also good friend of my mother Linda Reid and stepfather Lorne Reid. Last time I saw Ron I had him and Joanne stay in their trailer at my property in Cooks Creek, parking their rig right beside my parents trailer for the weekend, we did a big barbeque and shared a few cold bevys together. It was a nice visit especially with him being able to see Lorne before he passed, great memory to have of him. My best memories are visiting Ron and Jan at otter falls and ripping the jet skis around and learning to waterski behind his boat. He also hosted a wicked Grey Cup party! Ron will be missed my his contagious smile and all the stories he would tell. Til we meet again old friend. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Sean Beverley (Long time friend) on: Dec 17, 2021

  • Have fond memories of hanging out with Ronnie at Otter Falls as kids (catching frogs and releasing them in the restaurant) and young teens (multiple unsuccessful attempts to meet girls (walking the 10 miles to Nutimik only to find no girls there and walking all the way back, anchoring Ronnie’s boat halfway out on the lake so we could swim to dock of some girl’s family - trying impress her - on Eleanor lake, and being told by her dad she’d gone back to city - laughing our heads off. Well I’d laugh, he’d giggle. A mix of innocence and mischief … love to famiy / Doug / Grant, from Bill Millar (3 cabins over) - Posted by: Bill Millar (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2021
