MONTSERRAT RODRIGUEZ
August 1, 1943 – December 8, 2021

It is with deep sadness the daughters of Montserrat Rodriguez announce the passing of their vibrant mom on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the age of 78 after an aggressive battle with cancer. She was surrounded by love and will be dearly missed by family and many friends.
Montserrat was born to parents, Carmen Peteiro and Secundino Lamas on Sunday, August 1, 1943 in Lugo, Spain. At the age of 27, shortly after her marriage to Jesus Rodriguez, she immigrated to Canada, making roots in Thunder Bay, Ontario. There, they raised three daughters, Sandra (Dilpreet), Natalie (Salvatore) and Sylvia (John). In the year 2000, Montserrat moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, mainly to be closer to her sweet grandchildren. She had eight grandchildren, and she adored each one of them in her own unique way: Jamin and Carmen Bains, Marlo, Athena, Nadia Valente, Tyrelle, Torrez McKoy and Maseo Gigliotti.
Montserrat had a zest for life. She delighted in travelling and meeting new people, and listening to Spanish music and dancing, especially flamenco. She was very creative and enjoyed learning new things. She had a special place in her heart for the elderly and those in need, often caring for the sick in various ways.
Throughout most of her life, Montserrat was very close to her Creator, Jehovah and found much happiness in serving him. Over many decades she appreciated the love, fellowship and support of her friends in the congregations.
The family is grateful to their mom's dear friends, who were a warm source of comfort and support when she needed it most. She loved and valued your friendship beyond measure. The family is also grateful to the Oncology Team at the Health Sciences Centre, for their ongoing support in treating their mom, and extend a special thanks to MacKenzie Jansen for her continued patience and kindness. Our heartfelt thanks also go to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, 3E, at the Riverview Health Centre for the compassion and care displayed towards their mom in her final days.

"Porque, si vivimos, vivimos para Jehová y, si morimos, morimos para Jehová. Así que, tanto si vivimos como si morimos, le pertenecemos a Jehová." Romanos 14:8.

  • Our sincerest sympathy to Monserrat’s family. We became friends when she would come to Florida during the winter months. She was a very sweet and generous person. So sorry she lost the battle with cancer but we look forward to seeing her again in Jehovah’s beautiful earthly Paradise. Monserrat will always be missed until we are together again. • I met Montserrat a few years ago when she came to my door to spread the word of Jehova and his promises to us. I immediately was struck by her kind and caring personality and began to do Bible studies with her. Even though I never became a sister in her Kingdom Hall, she was a true friend and was like family to me, always reminding me of Jehova’s Love and promises. She had such Faith and Strenghth and was such a inspiration to me. She will be missed. My condolences to the family and her many friends Merry. - Posted by: Merry Didur (Friend) on: Dec 15, 2021

  • The first time we met dear Montserrat was at a congregation supper where she wore a brilliant pink flamenco dress and danced for the whole gathering. Needless to say she was unforgettable! I did a cross stitch of her dancing. I will treasure it and hope I can show it to her in the new system. Lots of love to all the family. • Dearest girls! I'll never forget the time your mom had us over for supper and served us a soup with teeny-tiny whole squids swimming in the bowl! I was freaked out by the teeny-tiny tentacles but I closed my eyes, tried it, and . . . it was delicious! My thoughts are with you all, Love, Rhea - Posted by: Rhea Black (Friend) on: Dec 13, 2021
