ROBERT JAMES (BOB) MOLLOY

It is with great sadness that the family of Bob Molloy announce his sudden passing on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the age of 61. We take solace that Bob is together again with his beloved wife of 18 years, Barb Smith-Molloy, who predeceased him just four years ago.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his son Dallas (Natalia); grandsons, Nathan and Alexander; his parents, Bill and Caroline Molloy; siblings, William (Sandra), Kathy (Andy), Kenneth (Kerri), and Patrick (Sheila); nephews and nieces, Ryan, McKinley, Devon, Kellen, Stephanie, Jackson, and Kennedy; numerous other extended family members and friends, especially Peggy Smith and family, who share in our grief.
Keeper of all groan-worthy Dad jokes, Bob's sense of humour was only outshone by his bright smile. Bob had a caring heart and an easy-going nature that made him a fantastic friend. He was smart, handy, charming, athletic, and entertaining; but just went easily about his life, using all of these natural gifts to be an extraordinary and helpful part of our lives.
Bob was the ultimate helper. He could hang curtains, build a bed, put up holiday lights, coach your kids' flag football team or just drive you to the airport if you needed a lift. He enjoyed being active and was equally content going for a long run or helping someone install new baseboards. A consummate fan, Bob saw all the great bands from AC/DC to ZZ Top, and attended many sporting events from college bowl games to the World Series.
Bob's greatest joy and most ardent pride was as a father and grandpa. He was always eager to help his son with any renovation, take his grandsons for sleepovers, teach them golf, or just hang out with them to give their parents a reprieve.
Bob grew up in Winnipeg, making lifelong friends from his school days at Sansome Junior High, Westwood Collegiate, and playing Pop Warner football with the Chargers. He enjoyed a long, long, long career at Manitoba Telecom System before retiring in 2019. He had a brief break from MTS working contracts around the world. He and Barb loved to travel and these years of exploration, from Egypt to Brazil, were a highlight before his attention turned to caring for Barb during her courageous battle against cancer. They were able to tour six of the seven continents together and loved their adventures.
His recent move to Vancouver Island was a new adventure in retirement and had eagerly fit into the active west coast lifestyle and started building friendships.

His light will shine with us forever.

A private memorial service is being planned for the new year in Winnipeg.

  • Met Bob back when we both worked at Domtar Packaging. Then later at MTS for many years. Bob was a great person, very knowledgeable, and down right nice! Bob will be missed! God's speed my friend! Al - Posted by: Al Topnik (Co worket) on: Dec 19, 2021

  • So sad to hear about Bob's passing. I had many great conversations with Bob in working with him at MTS. From music, to finance, to toys. Yes, TOYS. When Bob found out that I collected G. I. Joes, he said 'I've still got my Joes from when I was a kid! They're in Mom's basement. Wanna buy them?'. Bob happily brought his G.I. Joes over, complete with Jeep and scuba diver and we wound up playing with them on the kitchen table for over an hour! A great guy with a great personality. My condolences. - Posted by: Riek Gladys (Friend) on: Dec 14, 2021

  • First, I wish to convey my deepest condolences to your family for your loss; I am shocked and saddened by this news. I came to know Bob a few years ago and he always made a point of maintaining contact right up to his passing. We shared many conversations and entertained each other with a battle of the wits where the laughter was constant. When he wasn’t joking, he was singing the praises for his son and grandsons and on a more serious note he often shared his grief and thoughts at losing his wife, his soulmate. He told me that he felt her presence when he was at the ocean and it gave him a sense of peace. I teased him about his spontaneous move to the west coast and that he would be back. He would always say, you’re probably right. But we both agreed that was the beauty of his retirement, doing whatever he wanted and living in the moment; He kept me entertained with his west coast tales and always asked when I was coming to visit. Bob often thanked me for our talks and expressed appreciation for me as a friend. I will remember his humour, the laughs. I am truly choked by his leaving too soon. May you all take comfort in the memories. E. Turnbull - Posted by: Elva-Lynn Turnbull (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2021
