MONIKA LEIGH STANSON

It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of our dear daughter and sister Monika Leigh Stanson peacefully at home, on Sunday December 5, 2021 at the age of 26.
Monika was born in Winnipeg and spent her early years in Seoul, South Korea and Hong Kong, SAR. During these years she developed a penchant for travel and experiencing other cultures. Upon return to Canada, she attended LaSalle Elementary School, St. Mary's Academy, University of Manitoba and lastly Red River Community College to obtain her Degree in Nursing. Throughout her studies, she achieved academic success obtaining a place on the Dean's Honour List.
Monika was employed at the Sturgeon Creek Retirement Home, where she loved working with the seniors. She also spent many years tutoring, lifeguarding and volunteering in the community.
Her passions were reading, gardening, fashion, playing with the dogs, and decorating with her mother. She also enjoyed playing baseball, ringette and swimming, where she eventually became a Certified Life Guard.
In spite of Monika's struggle with mental health issues, she was still able to find many joys in her brief life. We would like to thank our family and friends that have helped us to navigate through these difficult times.

  • I first met Monika at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence. She had already been working there for a while when I was employed. During our first shift together, we clicked instantly. As the friendship grew, we began spending quite a bit of time together outside of work. I’ll always remember how much fun Monika was to be around. We would die laughing over the smallest things, and the conversations we shared were the best. Monika will always be one of the most special people I’ve known, as she was such a genuine, selfless and caring person. I’ll miss her so much, and am devastated from the reality of her passing. • Michelle, Bob, Trevor and Mark; We are so very sorry to hear of Monika's passing. When I think of Monika, it is at the ripe old age of 4 at Nursery School, as that is when we first met. I remember her as a kind little soul with a glimmer in her eyes. She had a quiet wit about her that kept us smiling and even outright laughing at times. We are so saddened by your loss.
