MELINDA DAWN BRU
February 5, 1970 - November 19, 2021
Age 51

It is with great sadness the family of Melinda Dawn Bru announce the sudden passing of Melinda on November 19 in Shellharbour, New South Wales, Australia.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mylo and Shirley (Palidwor), grandparents, Nettie and Harry Palidwor, Claire and Marcel Bru, Bertha and John Kristoff; as well as aunts and uncles (biological and extended families).
Melinda was born February 5, 1970 in Winnipeg to Mylo and Shirley Bru, youngest of three children. She grew up in Winnipeg; attended primary schools, St. Gerards, John De Graff, Valley Gardens Junior High and graduated from Kildonan East Collegiate. She was also an undergraduate in the Quebec City CJEP program.
Melinda was an athlete at heart, excelling in Track and Field, baseball, swimming and later on skiing and snow boarding - outdoor activities were her passion. Her free spirit and love of adventure took her to New South Wales and to Perisher Valley, Koscivszko National Park region. She was employed with the Kosciuszko Mountain Retreat at Charlotte Pass for many years. It was at Charlotte Pass district she married Luke Proudfoot and their son Joshua was born. Later on, life would take her from Perisher Valley to the coastline where she held several executive management positions including Endota Spa, Bed and Breakfast in Kiama, New South Wales, one of the most recent Red Star Hotel Group.
Melinda will be sadly missed by her beloved son Joshua, his father Luke Proudfoot, brothers, Darrin and Bradley (Margaret) Bru, and the entire Proudfoot family. Left to mourn and cherish their time together her "Mom" Germaine Bru; nieces, Kelsey, Alexis, Danielle, their partners, and nephew Marcel. Also mourning her loss are many aunts, uncles, cousins; childhood friends Michelle (Winnipeg), Cecile (USA) and special Aussie friend Wendy Delaney. Numerous Aussie friends and co-workers will miss Melinda's infectious personality and laughter.
A special thank you to Pam Schuberg, who gave Melinda love and support throughout her years in Australia away from her family in Canada.
Funeral service was held December 9 at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, Jindabyne, New South Wales, Australia.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • No no no, not Mel. Just received the news about Mel passing away. Shock and sadness filled my heart. Inspiring, fun, loving, caring Mel. My mind has been replaying many moments, laughter as we were shredding the pass, partying in the bar, Christmas in July, Joshy on his first snowboard and how proud Mel and Luke were of their beautiful boy. We spoke about developing a day spa at Charlotte pass which did not eventuate but she followed her dream with a Byron Day Spa where I worked, then Endota Spa. She gave 100 per cent effort to everything she did. Ride those mountains in heaven Mel xx - Posted by: Nancy (Friend) on: Aug 02, 2022

  • I only found out today of this. Melinda and I had only touched base infrequently over the past dozen or so years. She and I had been close back in her Concordia days as well as the first years of her Australian adventure. I am heartbroken to hear of her passing. I have always remembered my relationship with her with fondness and she will always have a place in my heart! My sincere condolences to her family. - Posted by: Taj Nahanni (Freind) on: Apr 25, 2022

  • Joshua, your mum was school friends with many of us girls who still keep in touch here in Winnipeg. We went to school together in elementary, jr. high and high school together.
