ANNIE JANZEN

Annie Janzen of Bethel Place in Winnipeg died peacefully on December 14, 2021. Annie was born on a farm near Pincher Creek, Alberta on March 13, 1930.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna, and by her two brothers and two sisters. She will be dearly missed by a wide and diverse circle of friends and family - as she made friends wherever she went.
For 27 years, Annie was head cook at Canadian Mennonite Bible College (now CMU). She was a committed gardener and a world traveller. Annie was an independent and original woman. She loved God's creation and worked to promote care of creation and justice for all people. She was a long term member of Grain of Wheat Church-Community, a faithful follower of Jesus, a joyful and beloved child of God.
A gathering to remember and celebrate Annie's life will be held online on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Web link will be found at the website of Friends Funeral Service (friendsfs.ca).
Donations in memory of Annie can be made to the Annie Janzen Endowment Fund (for international students studying at CMU) through Abundance Canada (abundance.ca)

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I recall Annie first of all for the delicious raisin buns she served every Saturday supper during my time at CMBC. In subsequent years, I remember her for her joyful devotion to God, her complete abandon to expressing that devotion through singing, dancing, clapping, whatever mode of expression was preferential in that "moment". Annie lived "in the moment"; and tried to make each moment count in the economy of love. Even her telephone answering service reflected this desire to honor the Creator and point others in that direction! "Be blessed by Our Creator" was your cheerful greeting. Indeed, we have been, and will continue to be blessed as we remember you with fondness and gratitude. • Annie was a whirlwind. Her sheer enthusiasm for life was contagious. Though she was an excellent cook and served CMBC well over the years it will be her homemade chicken liver pizza heated on the engine cover of a VW van on a trip we took to the USA together that I will remember as her best ever. Rest well Annie. - Posted by: Lawrence (Friend) on: Dec 18, 2021
