MARIE CELESTINE (SALLY) SKOBLACK
(formerly PARISIEN)

Peacefully and without fanfare Mom took her last breath December 2, 2021.
Mom was born in Sandilands, Manitoba, the eldest of nine children. She was the daughter of the late Albert Parisien of LaBroquerie and Albertine (Delorme) of Marchand.
She was very capable and worked hard all her life. In her last working position, she was a nurse's aide in the maternity ward of Misericordia Hospital. She had a life of commitment to family, friends and community. She was independent in spirit and manner long before "women's lib". She was always helpful to people of need whether it was her own family or others. She enjoyed being useful. She volunteered at the Ladies Auxiliary #9 of the Canadian Legion, which she enjoyed very much. She will be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness. She helped care for her ailing mother and sister before they passed. If Mom had a great passion, I would say it was her car. At the age of 35, she decided to learn to drive and away she went. She went everywhere taking her nieces and nephews and other family with her. She relished the freedom and independence it gave her. She had a curious nature. Mom loved reading biographies. I think it fascinated her how people lived, what they accomplished. She would read and collect the obituaries in the Free Press of not only her passing friends but also others she never knew. Mom found them inspiring. She loved to travel and went half way around the globe. Mom celebrated her 100th Birthday on June 15, of this year. We made a fuss but I am sure Mom thought it was just another day.
Mom was predeceased by her husband William. She is survived by her daughters, Jean MacQueen of Toronto, Irene Astle and her husband Grant, formerly of New Zealand, granddaughter Nina MacQueen. Mom met her new great-granddaughter Sailor through zoom and the joy of that was special to behold.
At this time, the family would like to thank the very special people of Bethania Care Home. We are grateful to all the care staff and especially Margaret Penner for their compassionate care of Mom.
Many thanks to Mom's niece Loretta and her husband Gary Gutoski. We could not have done without their support especially in the last few years. We all thought Mom would live forever.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Condolences to the family. I have many memories of your Mom because “Sally” and my mother shared their lives from teen years, starting with rooming together in their teens and through their whole lives. Rita Black was my mom and the last time I spoke to your Mom was to let her know that my mother had passed in 2016. What a long wonderful journey your mom lived. - Posted by: Ida Brule (Friend) on: Dec 18, 2021

  • We were saddened to hear of Aunt Sally's passing. Sending our thoughts and love. - Posted by: Kimberley Hildebrand (great-niece (daughter of Jo Galipeau}) on: Dec 18, 2021
