RYAN WILLIAM SASAKI
May 17, 1947 - December 17, 2021

In the early morning hours of December 17, 2021, Ryan Sasaki passed away at the age of 74 with his wife and daughters by his side.
Ryan was predeceased by his mother and father, Hanae and William Sasaki. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Pat; daughters, Nicole and Stacey (Nick Freeman); and sisters, Elaine Keating, Janet Sasaki, and Dianne (Dan) Edwards. He will also be missed by his sister- and brother-in-law and many relatives and friends.
Ryan was the first of four children born to Hanae and William. He was always surrounded by women in his life - first his three sisters - and later his wife and two daughters and many nieces. Ryan grew up playing sports including baseball, golf, and curling, which he carried a love for into his adult life. In his youth, he also spent time hunting and fishing with his Dad and uncles.
As a young adult, Ryan spent his summers at Grand Beach. He made many friendships that he treasured and carried on throughout his life. At the beach he also met the love of his life, Patricia.
Pat and Ryan were happily married for over 47 years and lived most of that time in their home in West St. Paul with their two daughters. Ryan was extremely proud of his girls. He always made sure he was at all of their major life events and would brag about them to anyone who would listen.
Ryan was also very proud of his career that spanned more than 30 years at the Law Society of Manitoba until he retired in 2012. He was lovingly known as a character and a friend to those he worked with.
In retirement, Ryan spent time travelling to Calgary and New York to see his daughters. He also enjoyed traveling to Mexico with his good friends Ian and Bea. He was always excited for new adventures and loved surrounding himself with friends and family. He was the man many called for advice or just to listen. He was happiest surrounded by people he loved, enjoying a glass of wine or scotch.
The family would also like to acknowledge the health care professionals at the Health Sciences Centre who took great care of him in his final hours.
Funeral services will be held at Glen Eden on December 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Streaming of the event will be available at https://meet.google.com/yys-yhbb-ivb.
In lieu of flowers the family request you make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • Ryan was always easy going and a very positive person to be around. Fond memories. - Posted by: Allen Cornell (Friend) on: Dec 27, 2021

  • Pat, Stacey and Nicole - Our thoughts and prayers are with you at the passing of Ryan. We often connected at Grand Beach as Ryan and Pat visited mutual friends , Blanchard’s, Mazur’s and Konyk’s-lots of food, wine and fun! Over the years we looked forward to seeing them at friend related celebrations and at the Japanese Cultural Centre for Donburi lunch. Ryan had a way of “warming up” to everyone he came in contact with. He exuded integrity and a respect for everyone he met. Conversations with him demonstrated his intellectual curiosity and his willingness to share but also to listen! We will toast him tomorrow as we watch his streamlined memorial service. As well on our next visit to the Japanese Cultural Centre we will also toast our dear friend with a glass of saki! - Posted by: Wayne and Barbara Ruff (Friends ) on: Dec 27, 2021

  • Pat and family! Words cannot express the loss I feel for you. Such a gentle, kind and soft spoken man. Since I was a young girl at Grand Beach, Ryan and you were always there, sharing many hours of laughter and fun. My heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Gayle Simm (Friend ) on: Dec 27, 2021

  • I was very sorry and saddened to hear of Ryan’s passing. We shared passions for curling and golf which connected us from the days that I collected a travel cheque, as a rural articling student, through my days as a Bencher and President of the Law Society. His smile and friendship was always there! RIP dear friend. - Posted by: William Johnston (Friend ) on: Dec 24, 2021

  • So very sorry to hear about Ryan's sudden passing. He was a true gentleman and great company, always enjoying a good laugh. During his many years curling at the West kildonan Curling Club he spent a good number of them balancing the books which was always much appreciated. Our sympathy to Pat and family. • Very sorry to hear about Ryan's passing. My condolences. Although I haven't seen Ryan much since his retirement, I did see him quite frequently from 2000-2012 as a result of involvement with the Law Society. He was a great guy with a fantastic sense of humour. We shared many a laugh. He was also an excellent judge of wine and I remember him pointing me to the best bottles available at various soirees, particularly if they were running low. He will be missed. - Posted by: Jon van der Krabben (Acquaintance/Friend ) on: Dec 23, 2021

  • As a family friend for over 50 years, the Sasaki family has been a blessing in my life. Pat and Ryan were an incredible couple, each blessed with easy going personalities that complimented one another in work and at play. They made everyone feel welcome in their home, which was always full of wonderful food, kindness and laughter. Great value was placed on being honorable and living with integrity, lessons Nicole and Stacey wore on their sleeves, just like their father. To think of Ryan, is to think of a man who knew exactly who he was and what he wanted to be. In quiet yet determined ways, he shaped his destiny on the strength of a handshake or an easy chuckle. He was rock solid in every way. If you were his friend, it was for life. A job was to be well done. And a promise was always a promise. Ryan was a man of grace, wearing it, being it, and sharing it. His best days were ones when he was needed; as a husband, father, coworker, friend. The family, in and of themselves, completed one another. And they graciously made room for the rest of us. I live in gratitude for having known this special man. - Posted by: Diane Jones (Friend) on: Dec 21, 2021

  • Its with sadness that I send condolences to Pat and her girls. My late Husband Robert and Ryan were buddies from the North End and I am reminiscing all the Grand Beach weekends and the dinners we shared during the 70’s. Those were the days. A life well lived is a good life. My sincere condolences. Angie in BC - Posted by: Angela Tatarniuk (Acquaintance and friend through late Husband Robert ) on: Dec 21, 2021

  • Dear Pat, Stacey, Nicole, and Family, Our deepest sympathy on the passing of your dear husband and father. Ryan was always so cheerful whenever Doug and I would bump into him. We saw both Pat & Ryan at the East St. Paul Market Place this summer. Ryan was so cheerful and we chatted for quite sometime. It was so nice to hear about their trip to Mexico and New York. Ryan would take me aside and chat away about their vacations. What a wonderful person. I was very saddened when my brother Len told me of his passing. Our deepest condolences Pat, Nicole, Stacey, and family. I know he will be sadly missed by all. Barbara and Doug Palmer - Posted by: Barbara and Douglas Palmer (friend) on: Dec 18, 2021

  • My deepest condolences to you. Ryan and I met years ago, while he worked at The Law Society and I practised law. We spoke often and met on numerous occasions, during our years together, and I must say, he was a man of great convictions and a fine individual. He spoke often of his relationships with his family and the love he had for them. The world is a lesser place, without him. - Posted by: Harry Rosenbaum (Acquaintance and friend) on: Dec 18, 2021

  • My family and I are very much saddened to learn of Ryan’s passing and our deepest condolences are extended to the entire Sasaki family. I have known Ryan since the 1970’s and enjoyed tremendously his wit and sage advice. His wonderful skill as a cake baker (especially his snowball cake) and the man who mastered the skill of the barbecue will be missed. He was an exceedingly well read man and could be called upon for facts concerning the news reports of the day. He was well respected by the members of the legal community throughout his long association with the Law Society of Manitoba. Ryan will certainly be missed by all who knew him, I being one such person. - Posted by: Leonard Offrowich (Friend of the family) on: Dec 18, 2021
