RICHARD WILLIAM HAY
October 24, 1950 - December 25, 2021
He will be greatly missed by his mother Grace of Winnipeg, his brothers, Jim of Calgary and Frank (Carolyn) of Winnipeg, his niece and nephews, Alison, Brent, Cam, Blair, and Graeme, their spouses and children. Also his uncle Ted (Joan) Pattinson of Calgary, aunt Rae Pattinson of Milwaukee and numerous Hay and Pattinson cousins. He was predeceased by his father Ted and brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jane. Despite his sometimes gruff manner, he cared deeply for his family.
Rick was born in Gladstone, MB, the second of four sons to Ted Hay and Grace Pattinson and grew up on the family farm near Austin, and attended the one room school at Melvin. After graduation from high school in Winnipeg, he worked for the Manitoba Highways Department. He then moved to Calgary and spent the rest of his career working for Norcana Resources in Alberta, British Columbia and the Arctic. He became very acquainted with the small town Alberta bars and was well known in the seismic industry.
Rick travelled widely, from Scotland to Australia and many places in between, especially Cuba He was a voracious reader, often several books a week. He was a devoted follower of Coronation Street on TV and devoured the New York Times crossword puzzles. All the dogs on the Heath knew Rick, especially Huck and Fletch. He was famous for his acerbic wit, dry sense of humour and use of uncommon phrases. The gatherings with Pat, Betty Jean, Jack and Judy in the "TriCities" area were memorable
A private memorial will be held later.
If friends so desire, contributions can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
And finally, with Uncle Rick present, there will be no unpleasantness in heaven.

A true tribute for Rick. Ron and I always enjoyed time with Rick when our visits happen to coincide in Winnipeg. He was devoted to all of his family and of course the dogs. He will be missed but he also left so many great memories for all. Our sincere condolences, Debbie and Ron - Posted by: Debbie Lang and Ron Chambers (Friend) on: Dec 31, 2021
