MARY JANE GERELUS
(SKAVINSKI)
March 25, 1931 December 22, 2021
Mary was the daughter of hard-working Ukrainian immigrants and later owned and operated a farm with Peter near Shoal Lake, MB; they later moved to Brandon and then to Winnipeg. In the last few years Mary was blessed to live at Holy Family Home.
She travelled extensively, including Australia in her 70s. Mary was witty, funny, incredibly creative. A renaissance woman, she did needlework, sewed quilts, did wood working and taught Ukrainian; she loved to polka and square dance, was an excellent baker and incredible cook. An active member of St. Basil's Parish in Winnipeg, she showed great love, mercy and compassion, and would do anything to help anyone. She was always the first to welcome a newcomer and give you a hug when you needed it. A wonderful Mom, an awesome Baba, a great friend and a selfless mentor. We all love and admire you for a life well lived, and miss you dearly beyond words. You will live forever in our hearts.

Sympathies expressed to you all in the passing of your mom and baba. May she Rest In Peace. As we farm the land you lived and worked on in Shoal Lake we often talk of your place…. Combining wheat on Pete’s pick me up at Pete’s south so I can move the trucks. We have fond memories of spending time with uncle Pete and auntie Mary at the church and the hall in shoal lake. Aunty Mary showed true grit, perseverance, and ingenuity. I was always inspired by her creativity and pride in being able to do anything she put her mind to. I will always think of her as I hang the many Christmas ornaments she gave me over the years. Eternal Memory. - Posted by: Janet Hamel (Skavinski) and famility (Niece) on: Dec 31, 2021

This beautiful obituary made me cry. It’s a fitting tribute to unforgettable person Mary was. May she rest in peace knowing that she made a mark in this world and will always be remembered for her spirit and good heart. And may that comfort her grieving family. Please accept our sincere condolences! Tatjana, Gordan and Isidora - Posted by: Tatjana Draskovic (Friend) on: Dec 31, 2021
