GAIL ANN LARRY
(nee SOMERFELD)
Born October 2, 1951
Died December 15, 2021
It is with great sorrow that we said goodbye to our wife and mother, Gail Larry on December 15, 2021, at the age of 70.
Her strength of character and positive spirit will be sorely missed by her loving husband Nathan, and daughters, Krystyn (John) MacKinnon and Heather (Chad) Bower. She is also survived by her brother Gary Somerfeld. She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Anne Somerfeld (nee Scheirich).
Gail was a deeply intelligent and studious woman. This was apparent as she went through school in the River Height area and graduated early from Kelvin High School at the age of 16.
Gail's first love was her God; Jehovah. To that end, she quickly completed a course at Red River College and obtained employment that provided her the freedom and means to support her true priority of full-time work in the ministry. This work took her to a variety of locations across Manitoba and even as far as Montreal.
Although her first love was always Jehovah, she found another true love when she met Nathan. They married on September 22, 1973.
Their married life was full of adventure, including a trip of a life time in 1975 where they visited all three coasts of the USA. Many memories were created through these travels and many close and cherished friendships developed as a result.
Life changed gears in 1978 when Gail welcomed her first baby girl, Krystyn, into the world. The family expanded further in 1980 with the addition of Heather. The adventures weren't done yet. In 1982 the family moved to Brandon, MB where they lived until 2011 when Nathan and Gail returned to Winnipeg to be closer to their daughters.
Gail was a passionate lover of literature. Her soft spot was for anything of the "Who Dunnit" variety, although she was a voracious reader of all books. She also put her brilliance to work on a daily basis completing crosswords, cryptograms and other puzzles with ease.
Life was not without its challenges. As a new Mom, Gail was diagnosed with MS. Even though it diminished her abilities, she continued to value her service to Jehovah and his promises. When friends came to visit her, she asked them not to focus on her illness but instead on positive experiences in their lives, or positive experiences in the work sharing the wonderful hope she had.
Gail believed firmly in the promise shared in Isiah 33:24, "And no resident will say: "I am sick"". She knew as Revelation 21:4 says, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.". In her mind, the challenges presented by MS were only temporary and her focus was on the beautiful future ahead in God's earthly paradise. This photograph is what Gail will look like when she comes back in the resurrection.
Our family would like to thank the many health care personnel that helped care for Gail throughout her life, some becoming close friends. Thank you as well to those who provided care at St. Boniface Hospital and who made a real effort to accommodate her needs and those of her family.
A Zoom memorial service will follow on January 22 at 3:00 p.m.

Our deepest sympathies go out to you Nathan, also Krystyn and Heather. You’ve lost a wonderful person, wife and mother. I remember we first met when our hall was being built and we had our meetings in the school auditorium at Vincent Massey. Later we attented the Bible study at your home... and oh coffee after the study was fellowship with all. Gail made the best blueberry muffins. To this day I can’t make them as good as hers. You will have days of deep sorrow and then days of wonderful memories. The two scriptures Gail liked are our two favorites. How we all long for the new world and peace and everlasting life at lasto Peer and Ruth - Posted by: Ruth / Peer Jensen (Friends.. Brandon mb) on: Jan 10, 2022
