  • I am a genealogy buff, living in Mississauga, Ontario, who learned about Steve Masnyk less than two years ago. It turns out that my grandfather, Petro, who emigrated from Ukraine to Canada in May 1909, was an uncle to Steve's father Nicholas, who preceded him, arriving in May 1908. In the past 18 months, I have reached out to several members of Steve Masnyk's family and hereby extend my sincere condolences on his passing to Helen, Laurie and Susan Masnyk, Marlene Prystupa, Robert Hawryszko and other select descendants of the Lucek and Mosnyk families. May he rest in peace. Myron Masnyk - Posted by: Myron Masnyk (Distant cousin) on: Jan 08, 2022

  • I second cousin Susan Masnyk’s dismay at learning of our dear uncles’s passing through the newspaper! Dear Uncle Steve, the last member of the memorable, hard working , fun loving Masnyk family. He outlived all his siblings-103 years! What an accomplishment! Can you just imagine the reunion of that bunch? What a party that will be! The last time I sat to chat with him, he remembered everything-he recognized all of us from Toronto and recalled the big city with its big buildings..it was a touching meeting as he so resembles my father (John) in his way of speaking and mannerisms . I smile at the thought of that day sitting in his living room. Well my fellow Masnyk cousins I think a reunion of our own is due to honour dear Uncle Steve and all our parents before him. Rest Easy Dear Uncle❤️ Marlene Watson (Mosnyk) Toronto - Posted by: Marlene Watson (Niece) on: Jan 03, 2022

  • Great uncle Steve was the younger brother of my late Grandfather, John. I got the pleasure to know Steve at John’s funeral back in 2009. I’m happy to have had that opportunity and wish there were more. RIP Steve… - Posted by: Bryan Mosnyk (Great Uncle) on: Jan 03, 2022

  • Uncle Steve you will be missed forever and always. Never will I forget the summers the Mosnyk family would drive to Winnipeg from Toronto so dad could be with his brothers and sisters. Now as I am older I see the purpose of these trips. The family had an incredible bond. That now as I’m older appreciate. The love they shared was apparent to all. The laughter they shared the singing will forever be remembered. The trips Uncle Steve took to Toronto with his sister Mary and niece Donna were remembered by all. My children adored Uncle Steve he to to them. Just sitting and listening to Uncle Steve tell us stories of his childhood and farm life at the homestead was remarkable. He lived an incredible life 103. Your family is together again R.I.P.
