November 4, 1968 - December 27, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia (Patty) Kostelnyk on December 27, 2021 at the age of 53 years.
Patricia is survived by her best friend and caring mother Genevieve; her loving brothers, David and Will; sister-in-law Kim; nephew Dylan; godparents, Shirley and Paul; aunts and uncles, Marge, Gloria, Anne, Ted, Leona, Philip, Marion, Blaine, and Faye; as well as many adoring cousins, dear friends, and wonderful care givers. Patricia was predeceased by her father Myron, who we have comfort knowing she is now reunited with.
Patricia was born on November 4, 1968 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the eldest of Myron and Genevieve's three children and a favourite among her extended family, who she was always happy to see and visit with.
Patty was involved in so many activities from an early age and throughout her life. She completed a special education program in 1990 at Vincent Massey Collegiate. She also worked and volunteered at several places over the years. This included working at Burger King for 17 years and volunteering at The Salvation Army - Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre for over 10 years, somewhere she always looked forward to spending time.
Patricia was a competitive rhythmic gymnast for close to 10 years. In 1991, Patricia won gold and silver medals at the International Special Olympics held in Minneapolis. Soon after, posters of Patty promoting rhythmic gymnastics for Special Olympics could be found displayed throughout Winnipeg. In 1993, Patricia was selected to be a representative of Special Olympics to go to Ottawa, where she was very excited to meet the Queen of England. After retiring from rhythmic gymnastics, Patricia remained active in bowling for about 25 years, where she won so many awards it was hard to keep track of. But more importantly was the fun she had and the friendships she made.
When it came to music, Patricia loved listening to it, singing songs, and going to concerts. Patty had a sweet tooth and enjoyed swimming, doing arts and crafts, colouring, reading magazines, and watching television programs, especially sitcoms from the 1980s and 1990s. Patricia was very social and always looked forward to gatherings with family and friends.
We will sorely miss you my daughter, my sister, my aunt, my niece, my cousin, my friend.
A private service will be held for Patricia by the immediate family. A more formal gathering will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics Manitoba.

  • To my dear sister Trish, I am so proud to be your little brother. I learned so much from you about appreciating what you had and to be thankful for it. I am a better person for knowing and loving you. I will always remember the energy and excitement you brought on Christmas mornings to our family whether it was as kids, teenagers or adults. I will always remember and cherish the countless hours we spent hanging out in mom and dad's sunroom, you watching your favorite DVD/TV shows and me on the computer either working or playing games. You lit up the room everywhere you went and always had something nice to say to everyone. I am glad you are at peace now. I love you very very much. Safe travels, my lil big sister.
