LAURIE ZIGARLISKI
October 24, 1939 December 24, 2021
Laurie, or Ziggy, as he was called all his life, by friends, co-workers, and customers, passed away at his home in Calgary.
He is survived by his daughter Laura Brooke and granddaughter Jayla, sisters, Adeline Skrupski, Florence Ritchie (Earl), Marge Wazney (Victor), and several nieces and nephews. Laurie was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ann Zigarliski, and brother- in- law Walter Skrupski.
Laurie was raised in Garson, Manitoba. After a few years of working as a truck driver when he finished school, (and on and off throughout his lifetime), he began his lifelong career as a master butcher, first at Frederick's Grocery in North Kildonan, when the family business moved to Winnipeg (1956 to 1977), and then with Cutrite Meats in Calgary when he moved there in 1982. Laurie enjoyed cutting meat and was able to work until his late 70s, when health issues forced him into retirement .
Laurie had a nomadic spirit and he loved travelling with his camper truck, especially to Alaska, and around the lakes in Alberta, where he could fish and enjoy the nature around him. Laurie had a good heart and was always available to help friends when needed. He was very proud of his home in the Oasis Trailer Park and loved being outside in his garden or socializing with friends.
The family would like to thank Laurie's friend and former co-worker, Kathy, for looking out for him, especially during harder times.
There will be a private family gathering at a later date.
