Karen left us on December 30, 2021 after a fierce battle with cancer.
She leaves behind her man Aurel Leclerc; her daughters of the heart, Sheri Leclerc and Cindy Leclerc; her mom Pat VanderGraaf; brother Greg Bridgwater (Debbie); nieces, Erica Bridgwater (Mike) and Emma Bridgwater; and sister Jill West (Austin). She was predeceased by her dad Arthur (Bud) Bridgwater. Karen also leaves behind her family of friends from Winnipeg Beach to Mexico and all points in between.
Born in Fort William, Ontario on August 7, 1962, Karen moved with her family to a farm near Niverville, then to Winnipeg, and then she fell deeply in love with Winnipeg Beach. She promoted the Beach to everyone she met, exclaiming that it "wasn't far like everyone says" from Winnipeg, that the Beach people were the best people and the most fun, and that Blue Rooster was the perfect place to get funky beach wear, goods from local artisans, and maybe even a coffee.
Throughout her life, Karen was an A-student, an athlete, a nurse's aide, graphic designer, festival organizer, writer and editor of the Winnipeg Beach Gazette, boutique owner of the Blue Rooster, event coordinator, meter reader, volunteer, and mentor to so many. She was always on the move, always finding something fun or creative to do. She spent much of her time in her garden, and then more time canning relishes and jams, pickling everything she grew, and cooking for anyone who would eat. Vibrant, sweet, clever, opinionated, funny, and so caring, she loved travelling with Aurel, a good party (any party, really), and hanging out with Moxie the cat.
Karen and her family are very grateful for the care she received from the staff at Gimli Hospital, Selkirk Hospital, CancerCare Manitoba, the Manitoba Home Care Services team, and the Centre for Natural Pain Solutions. And to all her friends who raked leaves, mowed her lawn, shovelled snow, cooked for her, and who dropped in just to say hello and tell her what was going on or make her laugh, know that she loved you all and appreciated every moment.
A party to celebrate Karen's life will be held at a future date.

We are so sad to hear of Karen's passing and our thoughts are with Aurel and all her family and friends. She always greeted our return to cottage life with a smile a and a catch up. Karen and I met at GLL became great friends ❤ she lived with us for a short time well going to college se looked after our son they were so funny to hear what they did following rabbit poo around the yard. Came home one day she had gone strawberry 🍓 picking ext ee had dozens of jam . Life was always fun. Will truly miss my dear friend and my family will also.
