Sending sympathy to you all- “Dad, You taught me a bird must leave the nest and fly That it time I would leave and soar towards the sky. It was your love and guidance that reinforced my wings You lifted me before I soared towards life’s greatest things” - Posted by: Manu Varma (Friend of Jeff) on: Jan 11, 2022

We first met Lawrence and his dog, Sandy, in the mid '70s when he drove up in his blue GMC pickup. He introduced himself as our neighbor. Lawrence was a very personable guy from the get go. We soon shared many social events and farming activities together. It didn't take long to find out we had relatives and friends in common. When Lawrence shed his single days and married Terry, his focus became his family. He was an extremely proud and devoted dad to Jeffrey, Stacey and Lindsey. Lawrence supported his children in all their school and community endeavors. Lawrence seemed to know "everyone" near and far. He was a great conversationalist. Lawrence was the "go to guy" for the local history of the Baie area. His parents, Victor and Lillian, were descendants of the founding Paton and Scaife families of the Baie. He never forgot his roots. Our parents, Ella and Floyd (deceased) enjoyed sharing stories of the past and the latest "breaking news" with Lawrence. He was a great asset in the berry patch. Lawrence was the "complete package" (greeter, supervisor and berry picker). In recent years one of Lawrence's happy spaces was riding his bike along 26 highway on a warm summer/fall day. He would stop by to visit neighbors along the way. Lawrence enjoyed a good "chin wag" and a beverage. We were fortunate to have Lawrence and his family as neighbors/friends over the years. Lawrence made many contributions to his community. After 44 years as neighbors it is difficult to adjust to change. As we look over the snow covered field it is not the same not seeing the long snow fence and the Paton Farms driveway sign. Our heartfelt condolences to Terry, Jeffrey, Stacey and Lindsey.
