SURJIT KAUR PHANGUREH
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Surjit Kaur Phangureh (nee Nijjar), on January 6, 2022.
She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Daljit Singh Phangureh, of 65 years and her four children, Varinder (Loreta), Harinder, Jatinder (Baljeet), and Ravinder (Kulwinder). Bibiji will forever live within the memories of her eight grandchildren, whom she played a tremendous role in raising: Harleen, Jaskaran, Jasleen, Amrit, Lukas, Jazmeen, Matas, and Manraj. She will also be remembered by her brother Pritam Singh Nijjar and sisters-in-law, Harbhajan Kaur Nijjar, Niranjan Kaur Nijjar, and Satwant Kaur Nijjar and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Bibiji was predeceased by her father Bhag Singh Nijjar, and mother Raa Kaur Nijjar; her brothers, Tarlochan Singh Nijjar, Daljeet Singh Nijjar and Gurmit Singh Nijjar and her sister-in-law Charn Kaur Nijjar.
Surjit was born on December 7, 1940 in Domeli, Punjab. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1976. Bibiji devoted every moment of her life to ensuring her family was well taken care of. She was extremely hard-working to provide for her family and she even embodied this spirit after retirement. Bibiji dedicated 22 years of her retirement to her grandchildren and her husband. Bibiji loved to cook and would often spend her time making her family's favourite things. Her family is especially going to miss her knitting and homemade cooking.
Bibiji always had a huge smile while tending to her cherished garden in the summers. Even when life got busy, she always made time to keep in touch with family near and far. She made sure she was present in every large and small milestone. She also dedicated most of her life to seva within the community and Gurdwara.
Bibiji's resilience and strength to live her life to the fullest is an example for her family and loved ones. Her presence will always be missed, but a small part of her lives within each of us. We hope to continue her legacy and the values that she instilled within us.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Thomson "in the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery. The funeral is closed for the family due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please join us after at Winnipeg South Sikh Centre for Akhand Path following the funeral.
