VALERIE SANDRA JOHNSON
March 8, 1940 - January 5, 2022

With her husband Hughie and close family friend Jeannie holding her hands at her bedside, Val's warm, kind, and gentle heart took its last beat on January 5, 2022.
Val was a kind, caring and strong woman, always there for others. In 2007, she became the very first woman to become President of the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Branch #141, a position that she loved and was proud of. She was loved and respected by so many. She was a devoted and loving wife, a hard worker, a loyal and true friend, a mentor, and a wonderful human being. To have her in your life was a true blessing.
Val will be greatly missed by her loving husband Hugh Johnson of 61 years, her brothers Dennis and Ken Benzer, her sister Bonnie Sayers, her sister-in-law and brother in law Hazel and Alex Nicol, her nieces and nephews and close family friends: Anne and Mel Swereda, Jeannie Pomfret and Sylvia Stacey.

You may be gone for now, but you will live forever in our hearts and memories because you have given us a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and happiness. Thank you so much Val,
for who you were, and we wish you
a peaceful sleep until we meet again.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

  • Hughie and family, I wish you peace as you mourn and remember Val. She was a wonderful and strong woman. - Posted by: Dawn Golding (RCL Friend) on: Jan 17, 2022

  • God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so He put his arms around you and whispered Val, come with me. With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away, although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best. It’s lonesome here without you, we miss you more each day. Life doesn’t seem the same since you’ve gone away. When days are sad and lonely and everything goes wrong we seem to hear you whisper cheer up and carry on. Each time we see your picture you seem to smile and say ‘Don’t cry, I’m in God’s keeping we’ll meet again someday.’ You never said ‘I’m leaving,’ you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it and only God knew why. A million times we needed you , a million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God took you home. Rest In Peace Val - Posted by: Jeannie Pomfret (Close family friend ) on: Jan 15, 2022
