GEORGE WILLIAM (BILL) ELSTON

George William (Bill) Elston, passed away on January 1, 2022, at the age of 83, in Winnipeg.
He is survived by his two daughters, Wynne and Georgette (Matthew); four grandchildren, Austin, Kyle, Fergus and Greta; his brother Curtis (Barbara); and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Winnifred; stepfather Roy; sister Barb; and recently his brother-in-law Bill Burr.
Our dad was deeply proud of his time in the Canadian Army, serving with the Queen's Own Rifles and then with The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) in West Germany from 1957 to 1963.
He then worked for CP Rail for nearly 33 years, retiring as a general clerk in 1997. He was an avid collector – from model airplanes and trains to books and DVDs. Our dad loved photography, reading, playing golf, road trips and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
We would like to thank the staff at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home who cared for him in his final years after a series of strokes meant he could no longer live in the family home.
Our dad will be interred with his parents, at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, at a memorial service to be scheduled in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I will fondly remember dinners and visits with Uncle Bill at Nanny's house. Uncle Bill loved to rough house with our boys. He delighted in hanging them upside down till they literally cried "Uncle". All in good fun. My husband Richard has fond memories of conversations about air craft and battle ships with his Uncle Bill. An interest they both shared. Rest Well Uncle Bill. Our condolences to the girls and family - Posted by: Jacqueline Elston (Niece-in-law) on: Jan 24, 2022
