BOB REHBEIN
March 22, 1942 – January 12, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Rehbein at the age of 79 at St. Boniface Hospital.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lynne; daughter Tanys; granddog Wrigley and his sister, Judy. He leaves behind many extended family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
Bob was born and raised in Elmwood. He spent his younger years playing and coaching hockey. Continuing to play hockey into his 70s, one team in particular held a special place in his heart. Every Friday night in the winter he would be off to the rink to play with the Midnight Flyers. He loved recounting stories of old hockey times with the guys.
As an adult, golf became Bob's passion, and he was a member at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club for 50 years. Some of his favourite times were the 'golf odysseys' he had with his brother-in-law Jim. They played many rounds at Elmhurst, as well as in Florida. They took the trip of a lifetime to golf and tour Scotland to celebrate Bob's retirement.
Bob's working life began as an architectural draftsman. His attention to detail and precision were evident in every building he drew. After leaving Gaboury and Associates, Bob worked for Public Works Canada where he became a Project Manager. Before retiring, he was the Project Manager at Stony Mountain Institution.
During retirement, Bob enjoyed golfing, hockey, travelling and his house. He took immense pride in his home, which he designed and built. Everything had to be perfect, and it was. He discovered cruising as a great vacation and enjoyed many holidays with a special group of friends.
The biggest pride and joy of Bob's life was his daughter Tanys. She held the most special place in his heart. A constant presence in her life, she will miss her best friend deeply.
Thank you to the numerous doctors, nurses and other hospital staff who looked after Bob through the years. A special thank you to his family doctor, Dr. Karen Braun, where he always felt like more of a friend than patient.
We look forward to sharing Bob-ism's and stories at Bob's Celebration of Life, which will be held at a later date.
If friends so desire, a donation can be made in Bob's name to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.
"He'll always be remembered as a man, both strong and good. Who gave his best for others, and did the best he could. He'll always be remembered for all the joy he brought. As a man who made a difference, and a man who meant a lot."

Bob and Frank have been friends for over 60 years. He was in our wedding party and we had many a good night together. Our friendship developed more after he married Lynne we enjoyed many dinners together and will miss him. He was a good friend and was always there when you needed help. Deeply saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I have treasured memories of our teenage years in East Elmwood, firstly in the winter when we spent hundreds of hours on the rink in the freezing cold and Bob never wanting to stop. We played and coached together for many years. Then in the later teen years once Spring and Summer came I could never walk out onto Beach Avenue without seeing Bob either washing or polishing his car. No Winnipeger ever took greater pride in the cleanliness of his car than Bob. While our working careers took us in different directions in the later years and my visits with Bob became more infrequent I was honored that he agreed to come to Alberta to be part of my wedding party. I was deeply saddened to see that Bob had passed away. I will forever remember Bob with the twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face at the office at 269 Main Street. Bob was always racing around the office to gather information for the next project he would be working on. Bob rest in peace and may your memory be a blessing to your family. I believe the last time I saw Bob he was about 16, and he and his family had come to stay with us at my familys' cabin at Victorla Beach. Even then he was a real gentleman, and I remember he could eat a whole loaf of the beach bakerys' Irish loaf by himself, but he was a growing boy after all. It was sad to here of Bob’s passing and a loss of an old neighbour on Beach Ave. I knew Bob all my life and enjoyed his stories at the Kozak house when he visited my Dad and Mom and Brother Brian. Bob was a resource for my Brother Brian in his hockey career. Bob also helped me in my two house projects and I depended on him for advice. Bob was a perfectionist in anything he did. We had the pleasure of meeting Bob when Pam and Lynne began golfing together at Elmhurst. It wasn't long before a group of us ladies and our husbands became friends who golfed together and got together for dinners at each others homes. We feel truly blessed to have met such a wonderful, kind and caring man. He had a great sense of humor and we enjoyed our friendship both on and off the course. He will be missed. I am so sorry to hear of your beloved Bob's passing. We remember him from our slow pitch days and the get togethers after each game. I had the pleasure of meeting Bob during the construction of our family business. Bob was my parents (Jim and Diane Cornwall) neighbor and a fellow Elmhurst member. While Bob had been long retired my Father asked if he would assist us as an advisor on our new building construction. Bob graciously and with a certain sparkle of excitement in his eye accepted. What was to be one of the more stressful times in my and my Fathers automotive career was quickly made much more comfortable by Bobs presence. He shared a wealth of knowledge in construction that would be hard to match and a drive towards perfection in every detail. With his imposing size and deep stern voice also came an endearing smile and an incredible warmth. Bob was a gentleman in every way and I feel very fortunate to have met him. I will greatly miss his stories and enthusiasm for getting things right. Please accept our families condolences at this difficult time. We are so sorry to learn of Bob's passing. Bob was a great team mate and friend to all the guys at the Keith Bodley oldtimers games for many years. A rock solid defenseman who was respected on the ice for his 'firm' skills and determination, Bob was also a go-to guy off the ice for advise on building and maintenance. Bob was a family friend of the Kozak’s in Elmwood, Bob was always welcome in our home, he always came and visited my brother Brian when my brother was dying of cancer at home. So sad to hear that Bob passed away. A good friend during our early youth days in Elmwood & on through High school. Bob was in our wedding party & was always a person that I could depend on.
