ROLF BAERBIG
March 19, 1926 - January 9, 2022
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Rolf Baerbig.
Rolf was predeceased by his wife Martha, daughter Rose, and grandson Christopher. He is survived by his sons, Bill (Janice), Benny (Louise), Ralph (Norma), Reinhardt (Bonnie), son-in-law Nick, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Rolf was born and raised in Altenburg, Germany. In 1946, he met and married Martha (nee Dyck) the love of his life, and they enjoyed 74 years of marriage before her passing in 2020.
Rolf and Martha, with their four oldest children in tow, left Germany in 1951 to start a new life in Winnipeg. They settled in North Kildonan, where Rolf built their family home on Melmar in the evenings after a full day of work. He worked in construction until his retirement in 1991, when he cultivated his passion for gardening and puttering. He took pride in his home and was meticulous about caring for it until he and Martha moved into assisted living. Rolf loved fishing, camping, and travelling, frequently making trips to Florida and back to Germany. Although he was a quiet man, Opa loved his family more than anything.
The family is grateful to the staff at Donwood Manor for their exceptional care of our beloved Dad and Opa.
Due to current Covid restrictions, a small family funeral will take place. A livestream can be viewed at https://youtu.be/A6uBt3QZFMM.
A Celebration of Life for both Rolf and Martha is being planned for later in the year.

Please accept my most sincere condolences with the passing of your father & father/in-law. Were Gunter still with us, I’m certain he could have told many tales of good times he shared with you, Rolf, & your family on Melmar Place. You & Gunter were not only neighbours, but also school mates & best mates. May your memories of the good times you shared sustain you in this difficult time. Sincerely, Arlene HiRsch - Posted by: Arlene Hirsch (Friend of Rolf & Norma) on: Jan 22, 2022
