JANICE SAURETTE
(née SHEARD)
January 27, 1957- January 11, 2022

It is with incredible sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Janice Saurette on January 11, 2022. Janice was taken from us far too soon and had so much life ahead of her. She will be missed every day and will constantly be in our thoughts.
Janice is survived by her husband and best friend Ray; sons, Derek (Arlene) and Mark; granddaughter Lauryn and step- grandson Cayden; siblings, Craig (Barb) Sheard, Brenda (Herb) Vielhaber and Carlene (Randy) Rummery; brothers-in-law, Bert (Ros) and Barry Saurette; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry Sheard and Shirley Domenco and her brother Kevin Sheard.
Janice was born in Winnipeg and grew up in East Elmwood, where she attended school until graduation. Her great interest growing up was baton twirling for which she won many awards. She was the oldest daughter of five children and lovingly helped her parents care for her younger siblings.
In 1976 Janice took Radiology Technology at Red River College/Health Sciences Centre, which is where Janice and Ray met and became inseparable friends. They embarked on a life together in 1977 and married in 1980.
After graduation from RRC in 1978, Janice was hired part-time at Concordia Hospital. She then returned to HSC in 1979 and worked there until her retirement in 2018. Janice was an excellent Radiology Technologist who consistently executed high quality diagnostic images. She made many lasting friendships through her career and especially loved travelling with work friends to the US on Black Friday shopping trips, where she would come home loaded with Christmas gifts for her family.
Janice and Ray took many trips to their favourite destinations of Mexico and Florida, as well as to other locales in the south. Her favorite trip was in 2016 when her son Derek held his wedding in Cuba. Many of her family attended and all had an amazing time together. We are so happy she had that experience.
Janice was a kind, gentle, soft spoken person who cared deeply about family. Janice loved being a mother and her greatest pride and joy were her boys Derek and Mark. She would literally do anything for them and worried if they would be alright right to the end.
Janice's final years were a battle she was unfortunately destined to lose. She never gave up and fought long and hard against unbeatable odds. She persevered through a horrible illness and a challenging healthcare system due to the seemingly endless pandemic.
The family wants to thank the excellent doctors, nurses and healthcare aides at the Med 2 and Palliative care units at Selkirk Regional Health Center, where Janice spent her final weeks. It was there she found proper care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place. A service is being planned for a later date when gathering is permitted.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Interlake Eastern Health Foundation for the Palliative Care Unit, PO Box 5000, 120 Easton Drive, Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2 or online at www.iehf.ca in memory of Janice Saurette.
