EDWARD PETERS
Peacefully on Sunday, January 16, 2022, Edward Peters passed away.
Ed was born in a farmhouse in Ste. Elizabeth, MB on August 17, 1927 to Peter and Maria Peters. His mother died when he was five and a half years old leaving him, his father, and five siblings on the farm. In 1935 his father remarried and along came three more siblings.
Ed grew up on the farm and attended Jerome School and later Arnaud School. He attended the Lichtenau Mennonite Church and, upon the confession of his faith, he was baptized.
In 1950 Ed married Betty Braun of Morris and began married life by farming on her parents' farm. They had a daughter, Hildegard in 1952 who was stillborn, and a son, Edward in 1953. Eddy was born with Cerebral Palsy and was deaf. They lived on the farm until 1955 when, realizing that Eddy would require more therapy and care, they moved to Winnipeg. There Ed got a job at Manitoba Sugar Company which he held for 32 years. He was Plant Chairman of the local union for 14 years.
Ed and Betty bought a house on Erin Street where he lived for 44 years. Eddy attended the School for the Deaf. Ed became involved at the school and also served as the treasurer for the Home School Association for many years.
Ed and Betty loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations: numerous trips to Germany, cruises, Ukraine, Russia, South America and the Mediterranean Sea. They had a winter home in Florida and spent many winters there escaping the cold, Manitoba weather and allowing Eddy to have greater mobility without having to navigate the snow.
In Winnipeg, Ed became a member of First Mennonite Church. There he and Betty served as Deacons for five years and he sang in the Church, Occasional and Men's Choirs.
In his later years, Ed sold the house, moved to Autumn house, and got involved with the Tenants' Association - driving and helping with the meal program. He remained entertained by playing darts, pool, shuffleboard and doing puzzles. Ed was a lifelong, devoted Blue Bombers fan and held season tickets for many years. He was thrilled to see them win one more Grey Cup!
Ed was predeceased by daughter Hildegard, wife Betty, son Eddy, siblings, Mary Solnik, Helen Peters, Alice Wiebe, Herb Peters, Peter Peters. He is survived by siblings, Tina Isaak, Jake Peters, Selma Pauls as well as numerous family and friends. Ed is also survived by his special adopted granddaughter Erna Kehler (Richard) and their family. Ed had a special place in his heart for Erna and words are incapable of describing that bond. In his kind, gentle manner, Ed wrote, "she is very good to me."
The funeral will take place at Klassen Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. to those who are fully vaccinated. It will be live-streamed. Interment will take place at the Lichtenau Church Cemetery in Ste. Elizabeth, MB.
In ruhe sanft.

We got to know Ed as our mother's neighbour in the Bethania Place apartments. He was always smiling and always had a joke. He was a good friend to our mother and a regular visitor to "Tea Haus" events on Thursdays in the adjacent Bethania Care Home. He was always a gentle person and a great fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers! We will miss him. Carmen and Rick Dondo - Posted by: Rick Dondo (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2022
