GARRY POWERS
April 12, 1940 – January 14, 2022

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father and dear friend, Garry Powers. He passed peacefully on January 14, 2022, at the St. Boniface Hospital due to a severe stroke he incurred on December 1, 2021.
Predeceased by his parents, Mamie and John. He is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Joyce, daughter Adrienne, stepdaughter Rachel, as well as the extended family and close friends.
Garry was known for his witty character and crazy ideas. He kept us all on our toes for what he would do next. He loved to make us laugh and was always ready for a jig - especially if there was a scotch in his hand!
His vibrant personality was built from his extensive travels down and throughout the Americas, up to the fishing lodges in the Northwest Territories and everywhere in between. As well as running the family food truck business for the past 26 years, Sis and Me Mobile Catering.
Thank you to all the staff at St. Boniface Hospital who helped in his comfort the past six weeks.
Due to current restrictions, a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In the meantime, the family kindly requests that Garry's friends and family take a moment to honour his memory with a drink of choice. "Cheers!"

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • To Joyce and family.....I am sorry for your loss. May your happy memories bring you comfort. Take care. - Posted by: Mary Verhaeghe (Neighbour and Friend of Irene Caron. ( Lake Manitoba )) on: Jan 30, 2022

  • My deepest condolences to Joyce and her daughters for their loss. Garry was a force to reckon with and he will leave a great void in your lives but your memories will be there to carry you through. - Posted by: Pat Steele (friend) on: Jan 25, 2022

  • Knew every rock and reef in rivers of N. ONT. N.W.T. Central America, Columbia and Panamanian Pacific Ocean. Not nearly as proficient in Road Navigation. If Dick Maday and I had known that would have taken a boat or plane instead of a 3 week trip in EL BRONCO in early 1970's from Panama to Mexico city. Stick to the water up there POW and not just in your Scotch! - Posted by: derek booth (lifelong friend) on: Jan 24, 2022

  • I am so sorry for your loss Joyce and Adrienne, and to all of those who loved Garry. You truely had a gem of a man in your lives. Living next to your family, are some of my fondest memories of growing up in River Heights. Coming home from school or a shift at work at the mall on Saturday and Garry would have the truck up and running for the block to enjoy, come eat and all be a community. Thank you forever for building that joy in our neighborhood. - Posted by: Natasha Taylor (Neighbour) on: Jan 22, 2022

  • Woke up to this sad sad news. Garry was our neighbour for 16ish years. Every halloween he would show up with a Safeway bag full of candies for our daughter. Every once in a while a knock on the door with fries in hand. If we ever showed up at an event where the truck was present, free food. He was a kind, fun, generous, and caring man. Always had time to chat and share a story and good laugh. To Adrien and Joyce. There are no words to express how sorry we are for you loss. . Rip Garry. 😢❤️ - Posted by: Helene and Joe taylor (Old neighbor ) on: Jan 22, 2022
