TANIA KOCHAN
(nee DEMETRIOFF)
January 22, 1942 January 18, 2022
Tania Kochan passed away suddenly on January 18, 2022, days shy of her 80th birthday.
She is survived by her husband Phil Kochan; brothers, Gerry, Dennis and Tim; sister-in-law Heather; nephews, Chris and Ryan and great-niece and nephew, Alice and William.
Tania was predeceased by her parents and her sister-in-law Jeaninne.
Tania was born in 1942, the second child of George and Doris Demetrioff. She grew up in St. Boniface, surrounded by a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. After completing high school, Tania started a 37 year career in the accounts department of Manitoba Hydro. Retirement took her first to Manigotogan and then back to Winnipeg.
Throughout her life, Tania had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid and successful bowler. She regularly attended Blue Bomber and later Goldeyes games. Reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, walking, travel and socializing with friends were among her other interests, although declining health in recent years limited her ability to enjoy many of these activities. One interest that surprised some was Tania's relationship with food. She was a tiny person who loved to eat, especially anything new or exotic, so we take some comfort in knowing that Tania passed away with a novel and her favourite snack foods by her side.
Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held in the spring.
We ask that you honour Tania's memory in your own special way: say a prayer, raise a glass of cheer, go for a walk or hug a loved one.
Condolences for Tania's family may be left at www.alternacremation.ca.

Phil, Gerry, Dennis and family, Tim and Heather - Terry and I, along with our family, sincerely share your great loss and extend our deepest sympathy. Tania was a very special cousin to me even though we grew apart in our life's adventures. Tania was the "big cousin" who attended our childhood birthdays, babysat us, spent Christmas with, fished with us, and frequented our home on Dollard. I was tickled pink to be her junior bridesmaid and honored to walk down the aisle in my grownup pumps.(which she gave private lessons, all laughs & giggles included). Tania had a way about her where she made you feel equal despite the age difference. Great laughs were always on the plate when we went to her house to play cards. There are only fond memories attached to this tribute as she was a very special person. - Posted by: Marlene & Terry Tottle (cousin) on: Feb 06, 2022

Tania, you left us a couple of weeks ago and I miss you. Our last outing, we talked about your 80th birthday coming up and I was looking forward to spending some time together on or near that date. So sorry we missed that opportunity, my dear friend.. I met Tania in 2008, during a time when she was having health problems and I had lost my spouse. We went for coffee and suppers at Salisbury house and had many wonderful chats and laughs. I too was surprised with her awesome appetite. Driving down Portage Ave. on many days you would see Tania walking. She loved her walks, snacks, and crosswords. She would often talk about the soups and meals that you would bring, Phil. She enjoyed all. I'm so sorry for your loss Phil. My Condolences to you and Tania's family. I will honor Tania's memory with a glass of cheer, walk, and cheeseburger platter at Sals.
