MIKE CHENEWSKI
August 14, 1920 - January 25, 2022
Mike passed away peacefully at Fred Douglas Lodge on the morning of January 25, 2022, at the age of 101 years.
He will be greatly missed by his devoted best lady friend and partner Helen, and also numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Maria (nee Tarabus), five sisters and six brothers. He is survived by his best lady and partner Helen.
He was born and raised on his parent's homestead farm in the Good Spirit Lake municipality near Canora, Saskatchewan. He attended the local one room Strathcona school for his education. At harvest time he worked for local farmers with threshing outfits heaving sheaves onto a wagon rack pulled by a team of horses to the threshing machine. The going wage was $1.00 a day and all you can eat (farm women sure cooked tasty meals he would say!!).
Early in 1942, he was called to the Army Services, serving two years on the B.C. West Coast Defence System as an Anti Aircraft Gunner. He was then drafted overseas to serve with reinforcements in Europe for one year. After serving his term he was discharged on his return to Canada. He worked as an Electrical Service man for a few companies in Winnipeg, then decided to start his own business, Progress Electric Motor Service, which he ran until his retirement.
In accordance to Mike's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery.
Rest In Peace Mike
