JOAN BARBARA MACPHERSON
October 1949 - January 2022
It is with profound sadness that the family of Joan Barbara Macpherson announce her passing on January 27, 2022, surrounded by family at St. Pierre Medical Centre, St. Pierre, Manitoba. Joan fought a long and courageous battle with cancer for six years and never gave up. Joan was a wonderful mother and grandmother and always said her greatest accomplishment in life was raising her two children.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her husband Gordon (48 years), children, David (Robin and Tessa) of Regina, Heather (Shaun, Olivia and Luuk) of East St Paul. She is also survived by brothers-in-law, Ian (Ric) of Victoria and Ron (Barb) of Saskatoon. She is also survived by nieces and families in Saskatoon and Beaumont, AB. Joan was predeceased by her parents John and Helaine Dickenson and brother Grant of Abbotsford, BC.
Joan and Gord met at The Bay store in Regina in 1973 and shortly after relocated to Winnipeg. Joan continued her work at The Bay until family arrived. She was a stay-at-home mum for several years. Most notably Joan was the receptionist at River East Sports and Physiotherapy Clinic for almost 20 years where she developed wonderful relationships with staff and patients alike. Joan retired in 2014 when she and Gord moved to Paradise Village by St. Anne, MB.
Joan was a fun and practical person and her wit and personality combined with people skills allowed her to make friends easily and patients at ease when going to the clinic. Joan had fun times at the clinic especially on Halloween when staff would dress up. Joan always had a great costume using her creative talents. She valued her clinic colleagues highly.
Joan had a great love for animals and especially her cat "Lexi" and Terrier cross "Mr. Jock".
Joan had a wonderful group of friends and enjoyed special relationships with all. Her long standing friend and confident of almost 50 years was June Moyle formerly of Paradise Village now of Steinbach and Judy Wunsch of Regina lifelong friend from grade school in Abbotsford.
She especially enjoyed Spring when it was time to get the flowers planted. Joan also enjoyed camping and the many summers we spent at Spruce Sands Resort in our RV. These were genuinely great times. Her favourite time of year was Christmas, the family gathering, and everything associated with the holiday season.
A Celebration of Life is planned by invitation to be held in Spring and when Covid protocols may be relaxed.
Memorial donations may be made in Joan's name to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
Our family extends a special thank you to CancerCare Steinbach for the wonderful care and compassion they gave Joan on her journey and to the Home Care and Palliative Care programs of Southern Health Region.

Joan and I met at her workplace . I worked next door at the X-ray clinic, Joan was the receptionist for the physiotherapy clinic. We became instant friends upon that first greeting . We found out we had much in common, especially a love for the Winnipeg Jets. Joan held a very special place in her heart for Number 27, Nicholas Ehlers. My secret wish was to somehow contact him so he could have a conversation with Joan, but unfortunately that never came to be. I will always cherish the memory of a birthday celebration for myself at their home in Paradise Village that was a surprise from Joan. Joan was the kindest person I have ever met and I will cherish her memory always. The love and care that Joan received from her family and caregivers, allowing her to remain at home for as long as possible made her last days a time of togetherness that was truly special. May she Rest In Peace. An Irish Blessing May the road rise to meet you May the wind always be at you back May the sun shine warm upon your face And the rain fall soft upon your fields And until we meet again May God hold you in the palm of his hand - Posted by: Wilma (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2022
