MARGARET LODGE
January 20, 1926 January 21, 2022
It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Margaret Weir McIlquham Lodge (nee McCurlie) on January 21, 2022, the day after her 96th birthday.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Andy in 2015 after a wonderful 64 years of marriage. She will be sadly missed by her children, Judy Comfort (Dave) of Vernon, B.C., Cathy Lethbridge (Dave) of Stonewall, Manitoba, Peggy Peters (Steve) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and son Andy (Sandra) of Orangeville, Ontario, along with 11 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, sister June of Parksville, BC. She was predeceased by her sister Dorothy and brother John, both of Ontario.
Mom was born in Toronto, Ontario on January 20, 1926, daughter of John and Ada McCurlie. Mom attended various schools in Alberta and Ontario as her father was a minister of the Presbyterian Church and preached in many churches. Mom graduated as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario in 1948. Mom and Dad met while Dad was home on leave from the Navy. They wed in May of 1948, with her father officiating the ceremony. They started a family shortly thereafter. Mom enjoyed making a loving home and raising her four children. Mom sewed clothes for us when we were young, was a great cook and loved to bake her butter tarts were the best. Due to Dad's career, the family moved to Vancouver and London, Ontario, before settling in Winnipeg. She joined various bridge clubs throughout the years and took up the game of golf while living in Vancouver. When we settled in Winnipeg, Mom joined the Assiniboine Golf Club and also enjoyed several years as a volunteer, both at the Nearly New Shop of the Children's Hospital Guild of Manitoba and at the food bank operating out of her church.
Once Dad retired, Mom and Dad were fortunate enough to spend 27 winters in Mesa, Arizona. Almost every winter at least one of the children would spend time with them, golfing and enjoying the warm weather. A few times all of us would meet at their place in Arizona for great family time, which sometimes included a side trip or two to Vegas.
Mom's health declined over the years, and in May of 2019, she moved into West Park Manor. The family would like to thank the staff of West Park Manor, Wing 1 East for their wonderful care of Mom and support and compassion in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the West Park Manor Staff Fund or a charity of your choice in Mom's memory.
Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Mom's wishes there will be a private family celebration of her life.
