MARGARET VASS MACANGUS
(FRASER)
March 9, 1932 January 26, 2022
With her family by her side Margaret passed away peacefully at her home at The Shaftesbury on January 26, 2022. She was just shy of 90 years old.
Margaret leaves to mourn her children, David (Nancy), Winnipeg, MB, Glen (Monika), Winnipeg, MB and Shona (Brent), Kelowna, BC; her Winnipeg grandchildren, Callum (Meghan), Jane (Matt), Amy (Lyle), Sydney (Sprague), Cameron; and Reid (Toronto), and Dana (Kelowna). Her great-grandchildren, Campbell, Annabell, Maisie, and Hamish. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Donald MacAngus, in 2003.
Margaret was born on March 9, 1932 in Glasgow, Scotland to John and Jane Fraser. She met her husband, Donald, in 1944 at the age of 12 in the fishing village of Hilton, Scotland. Don immigrated to Canada in 1949. He returned to Scotland a few years later to wed Margaret. She and Don were married at the Jordanvale Parish Church in Glasgow on August 21, 1953. Shortly after, Don returned to Winnipeg with his new bride. Living in Canada took some adjusting for Margaret and she did not like Scotland being referred to as "the Old Country"! Once settled, however, she went on to enjoy her life in Canada and often spoke of how proud she was to call herself a Canadian.
Margaret loved to golf and spent many days on the course at Southwood Golf & Country Club as well as the course at St. Charles Golf & Country Club. She and Don were also members at The Victoria Golf & Country Club and would spend time every spring in Victoria, BC to get a head start on the golf season! They also enjoyed many golf vacations to Palm Springs, Florida, and Bermuda.
Margaret was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed many hours playing in several bridge clubs with friends. She also spent many years playing Duplicate Bridge with her bridge partner, Margaret Munro - the two made quite a competitive team! She particularly enjoyed the game show, Jeopardy, and rarely missed it!
Margaret was very proud of all of her children and grandchildren. She was affectionately referred to as GMac by her grandkids and their friends! She was so pleased in the past seven years to become a Great-Grandma! She loved shopping, old movies, and musical theatre. She especially loved family dinners with a glass or two of red wine!
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Susan Moore, a close family friend of over 50 years, for her support and companionship to Margaret over the past several years.
Margaret had a wonderful home at the Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence over the last five years. We are especially grateful to the staff in The Boulevard at The Shaftesbury for their tremendous support, care, and compassion.
A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at a later date.
Should you wish, donations in her name would be appreciated to: The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, P.O. Box 48145, RPO Lakewood, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2J 2Y1 or online at: www.jdrf.ca or a charity of your choice.

I have enjoyed many games of golf and a number of dinners and banquets in Marg’s company at “the old Southwood golf course”. We would always be having a laugh over some joke or another. My grandparents were born in Scotland, so much of our shared laughter was probably based in Scottish shared humour. If there are golf courses in heaven, I hope to join Marg there, and have a few more games with her yet, at some time in the future. My condolences to her family, whom she loved so much. - Posted by: Catherine Lee (Golfing friend) on: Feb 01, 2022

Margaret was a friend to each and every member of our large family and for over 50 years never ceased to inquire as to our individual well beings. She was genuinely interested in the lives of others and always had an insightful and often humorous perspective on their stories. She will be long remembered and missed by every one of the Grewar clan. - Posted by: Rory Grewar (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2022
