  • My deepest sympathies Richard. I just learned with shock and sadness about John’s passing. John was a talented wonderfully spirited man who I first met when he was providing his services as a French language interpreter. I later learned of his considerable artistic skills. A gentle and thoughtful man with whom I always enjoyed talking. Again Richard, my heartfelt condolences. Glenn Joyal - Posted by: Glenn Joyal (Former colleague ) on: Feb 08, 2022

  • I have just heard, with great sadness, of John’s death. Richard; you have my deepest sympathies. John was the loveliest of men and had that (now) rare quality of graciousness that so few have, He was a true gentleman and always seemed to be able to make people feel comfortable with themselves. I can appreciate how much he will be missed and no words can convey the loss. I know you have friends and family, and that helps. If there is anything at all that I can do for you please just let me know. With affection and sorrow, Naomi Levine - Posted by: Naomi Levine (Friend) on: Feb 05, 2022

  • I was taken back to Kelvin High when I read of John's passing. He was a kind and gentle soul, as I remember him. I believe we worked on a student election campaign together in grade 11 or 12. We also shared some classes. I am so sorry for your loss! - Posted by: Catriona Younger (nee Gannon) (High School Friend) on: Feb 05, 2022

  • It’s been a gift to live just two doors down from John. When my kids were little he would come by just before Christmas to give us freshly baked cookies and some cash to each of my three children. A truly wonderful, gentle and kind human. I’m grateful for the many lovely chats shared with John when out doing our mid-day gardening. His overwhelming joy when expecting his first and second grandchild and his pride in Alex when she acquired her position at the hospital. Many parental chats all overflowing with pride in his children (now very much adults). I will miss John very much. To Richard, Anthony and Alex my deepest condolences. - Posted by: Cindy Haughton (Neighbour) on: Feb 04, 2022

  • To Richard and family, please accept my deepest condolences. I forget how I met John, maybe at the Rady gym. He approached me telling me he knew my bother Syd, who had already passed away. After I met him he always came up to me to say hello when he would see me. He was such a lovely lovely man, always saying such nice things about my brother and asking me about my life. He really was such a good, kind person and you could feel he really cared. I was very saddened to hear about your loss. - Posted by: Deb Cramer Chochinov (Friend) on: Feb 04, 2022

  • Please accept deepest sympathies from me and from Lucy Byzio. We very much enjoyed seeing John at the firm functions and other events where we would run into John and Richard. He was always such a delight to talk with, and it was a privilege to get to know him, even if only for a short time. - Posted by: John Stefaniuk (Law partner of Richard's) on: Feb 04, 2022

  • John was an exceptionally thoughtful and gentle person who will be greatly missed by our family. He could not have been more generous or gracious to us as neighbours, always offering a kind word and sincerely welcoming us into his life. Getting to know Alex and Anthony a little bit over the past few years, it was wonderful to recognize in them so many of their father's fine qualities. Truly exceptional, good hearted people. Izzy, Freddy and I send our deepest regrets. - Posted by: Greg MacPherson (Neighbour) on: Feb 04, 2022

  • I have nothing but fond memories of John. He always had time to stop and chat on his way out or when with Richard. We had many interesting discussions. Some were serious and intellectual and many were where we were able to share a laugh or three. Such a kind person and in my experience, always very positive. I am very saddened to hear of his passing and my sincerest condolences go out to Richard and the rest of their families. - Posted by: Todd Hamin (Friend) on: Feb 04, 2022
