GORDON EDWARD MAUNDER

Gordon Edward Maunder (1935 to 2022) died peacefully on February 5, 2022.
Gord is loved and greatly missed by his wife of 65 years Doreen, his children, Kathleen (Jocelyn Galarneau), Bob (Lynn Fisher), Nancy (Alan Wallis), Karen, and his grandchildren, Emma and Chloé Galarneau, Duncan (Mikey Martin-Cannon), Mac, and Katie Maunder, and Erica and Sydney Wallis.
He was a gentle man and a lover of nature, beautiful colours, and dogs. He is remembered in Muskoka as a long-time supporter of Special Olympics athletes. He will be there in spirit when his 1953 Norwood baseball team is inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
Gord was the only child of Max and Edie; an engineer, starting with Bailey Meter and ultimately Maunder-Britnell Engineering; and a curler wherever he lived, most recently the Gravenhurst Curling Club. Gord had Alzheimer's and was cared for at home phenomenally by Doreen. After he was hospitalized and the disease had robbed most of his memories, he still smiled and told Doreen how much he loved her when she visited. She was by his side holding his hand in his final days. Thank you to the caring staff of Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, especially Neil Thazhamon.
Donations in Gord's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka, Special Olympics Ontario - Muskoka, or Trinity United Church in Gravenhurst, Ontario.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I had the privilege of being Gord's and Doreen's neighbour for 25 years. Caring and thoughtful neighbours, 4 terrific kids. The Maunders were an asset to our neighbourhood of Don Valley Village. So sad to hear of Gord's passing. He will have found a blessed place in HEAVEN at HIS LORD AND SAVIOUR'S FEET. - Posted by: Margaret Stewart (long time neighbour) on: May 13, 2022

  • Saddened to read of Gordy’s passing. Playing junior baseball on opposing teams Gordy was such a talented, competitive, respectful opponent you couldn’t help but like. My condolences to the Maunder family and all of Gordy’s friends. The BIG LEAGUE has obtained a great third baseman….and human being! R I P - Posted by: John (Rendall ) on: Feb 09, 2022
