Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • I was so sad to hear of Greg’s passing. I worked with Greg for 10 years and can honestly say there were the best years of my career. Greg was an amazing boss and friend and he and Silvia always made me feel so welcome whenever I called. Greg loved what he did and he was always happy to tell you a story about past cases. He treated everyone the same and never made anyone feel less than important. I often think back to the time I worked with Greg and truly miss it and him. • Mr. Brodsky was the first lawyer I worked for and that was 1968 to 1970. He was so kind and gentlemanly. I enjoyed working with him everyday. I only left that position because I married and moved to Nova Scotia. I have thought of him over the years and was so grateful to have known him. - Posted by: Louise Saunders (Past secretary ) on: Feb 22, 2022

  • I met Mr. Brodsky in 1965 - he was my lawyer - I was one of his first clients - he then became Greg and were friends ever since - attending football games, hockey games, family dinners and other functions - I tried running with him and Fred and could not keep up - so Greg said Gord ride your bike - so I did - he had a way of making me feel like I was being interrogated but our friendship grew and true friends like that are hard to come by - I moved to Alberta in 1997 and Greg and I had many conversations over the phone - I will miss those friendly talks - and friendship - you have earned those Angel Wings - which were well deserved. - Posted by: Gord Lohr (Friend) on: Feb 20, 2022

  • I worked at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue from 1986 to 1992 as the accountant. Mr. Brodsky was on the Synagogue Board. I'd be at Board meetings and he would give me a pile of $100 bills after the meeting and say "here put this on my account" and walk away. I'd say "wait, I need to give you a receipt" and he'd reply "I trust you Carla". He is one of my favourite people from my time there. I saw him throughout the years, at sports and other events and he ALWAYS remembered my name and where he knew me from. Three years ago, he arrived at a Bomber game in his little sports car. I recognized him as he drove into the parking lot, and went over to say hello. It took considerable time for him to extricate himself from that cute little car, and he laughed at himself when he saw me walk up. Again, he remembered my name. He wasn't walking strongly, and had to go up and down the berm to reach the stadium. I asked him if I could walk with him for a bit to chat. I took his hand (rather than his elbow) and we walked over and down the berm. As we parted, he said "if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to call me". He was thanking me for not making him look like an old man who needed help. Rest in Peace Mr. Brodsky, Carla Pelletier Gray. - Posted by: Carla Pelletier Gray (Acquaintance) on: Feb 15, 2022

  • When I had some troubles as a young man over 40 years ago I was blessed to have Mr. Brodsky, Q.C., defend my case. He was thorough, compassionate, understanding, fair, honourable and absolutely dedicated to presenting my best case before the jury. For me, the event that required Mr. Brodsky's services was a single moment in time that could well have destroyed my life and almost did, but he was my North Star, and I looked up to him and found solace in his kindness, brilliance, and complete devotion to my defence, and to the law generally. There will not be another like him, and while others are more qualified than I praise his legal impact, I must praise what I found in him most prominent in my experience of him, a man true to his faith whose compassion and life wisdom set me on a road to healing that I have never forgotten. - Posted by: David Organ (Client) on: Feb 13, 2022

  • As a young woman with a legal problem I was referred to Mr Brodsky. I was at ease with him at once. My problem was solved and he became my lawyer for life helping me in all my legal matters.I am very sad to lose my friend Greg. - Posted by: Carole Lewis (Client) on: Feb 12, 2022

  • I have known Greg and Sylvia since a few months after they were married, we were all in the Young Liberals together and had a great time, we kept in touch through the years and I would see Greg often when he went to the Jewish centre gym. He was so much fun and I remember being I their home and the AWSOME dogs and how he trained them. He was an amazing man not only as a lawyer but as a kind loving human being. May he Rest In Peace, he is with his beloved Sylvia. - Posted by: Maureen Anderson nee Fraser (Friend) on: Feb 12, 2022

  • Many times an accused would proudly proclaim “Brodsky” when asked who his lawyer was. It could be a simple breach or a shoplifter and somehow stating the name of a prominent, perhaps most prominent, defence lawyer, would cause us (the police) to second guess the arrest. I can admit now that thirty five years ago it would put me on edge and I made sure my work was thorough. As the many years went by it was common to meet Mr.Brodsky at the courthouse. He was not pompous, arrogant, or ever disrespectful. He was fair and worthy of his reputation. When the accused stated “Brodsky” I knew a tough but fair day in court may be ahead. I am sad that he has passed, I enjoyed our talks. - Posted by: Tim Diack (Work friend) on: Feb 11, 2022

  • I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Greg Brodsky for many years. Being a fierce and knowledgeable lawyer who had the funniest dry sense of humour I have come across. He loved his wife and family dearly. Greg will be greatly missed! Nevada Cianflone - Posted by: Mr. Greg Brodsky (Hairstylist ) on: Feb 11, 2022

  • What one can say that hasn't already been said about an actual olympian, world record holder of criminal defenses, and co-introducer (along with Dr. Fred Shane) of the battered woman's defense into Canadian Law? Not much, at least not from me, except that I knew Greg and liked him a whole lot. RIP - Posted by: Dr. Gary Polonsky (friend and admirer) on: Feb 11, 2022

  • When it comes to Criminal Law jurisprudence, it would be hard to find a province that can hold a candle to Manitoba in proportional terms. That is due in large part to the quality of the arguments put forward by our lawyers. For the past six decades Mr. G. Greg Brodsky, Q.C. has been a leader in the advancement of the law, not only in Manitoba, but across Canada. Daniel and Aaron, you can be very proud of your father’s contributions to the law over his long and memorable career. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Richard Chartier, Chief Justice of Manitoba. - Posted by: Richard Chartier (Chief Justice of Manitoba) on: Feb 11, 2022
