MAUREEN DIANE CAMPBELL
(nee WATKINS)

1940 – 2022

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Maureen Diane Campbell on the afternoon of January 25 at St. Boniface Hospital. Maureen was born on November 10, 1940 to Percival and Lillian Watkins whom she loved and respected very much.
Left to mourn her passing is her husband Jim, of 62 years and best friend for 69 years. Also mourning are her children and their families: son Rob (Sharon) and their daughters, Kristen (Jordan) and great-granddaughter Olivia, Melissa (Lyndon) and Lauren; daughter Joni and her son Derrick; son Rick (Deb); and daughter Jackie and her daughter Brittani (Paul) and great-grandchildren, Wynter and Kalis. She will also be missed by her brother Roy (Linda) and their family and her lifelong best friend Helen (Ron) Wharton.
Maureen grew up in Elmwood excelling in school and enjoying sports, particularly baseball which she was very good at. After getting married, she and Jim didn't wait long to start a family and eventually settled in Transcona until later moving to North Kildonan.
Maureen was happiest when surrounded by family. She took every opportunity to spend time together with birthday and seasonal celebrations being top priorities and always so much fun. Maureen was an exceptional cook and everyone looked forward to her delicious meals. The family cottage was also a key focus for everyone to get together, starting with the cottage at Lester Beach and then for the last 43 years at the cottage at Lee River. There was always such a diverse range of activities going on which she always took part in like volleyball, lawn darts, Frisbee, doing puzzles, board and card games, boat rides or simply floating on an inner tube off the dock.
Maureen and Jim enjoyed great vacations and cruises, of which there were many. They especially enjoyed spending the winter months in California, first at their home in Indio and then for many years in La Quinta. The highlight was when family would come down and stay with them. They also made so many terrific friends, some of whom they remain in contact with.
Maureen was an exceptional wife, mom, nan, great-nan and friend who will be sorely missed. As per her wishes, there will be no service.

  • Jim, Rob, Joni, Rick and Jackie A smile appears on my face as I think of Maureen. I will fondly remember her. My condolences. - Posted by: Darlene Everaert (family friend) on: May 11, 2022

  • I have known Maureen since grade five, played baseball with her, acted as chaperone on her dates with Jim, and was maid of honor at their wedding. I have watched her children grow up to produce two more generations of Campbells. My husband Ron and I visited them many times in Winnipeg, at the cottage on Lee River and in California. They visited us in Toronto and Arizona. Maureen was the family matriarch, and I cannot imagine the Campbell clan without her there to set them all straight. She will be missed by both family and friends. Stay strong Jim and take pride in the amazing family you and Maureen raised together. - Posted by: Helen Worton (Old Friend) on: Feb 17, 2022
