STEVE SEMENCHUK
May 2, 1934 – January 26, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Dad, Poppers, Grampa, Grumpa-Bumpa, Gido, Uncle, and friend, Steve Semenchuk, on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Jocelyn House Hospice in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was in his 88th year.
Steve was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Margaret, in May of 2017. He was born in St. Andrews, Manitoba and was predeceased by his father John; mother Josephine; and siblings, Anthony, John, Sam and wife Jean, Jim and wife Joyce, Jean and husband Pete (Rudyk), and Aggie. He was much loved and will be deeply missed by his daughters, Teresa (Steven) Robinson, and Carolyn Semenchuk (Dennis Wirvin); grandchildren, Tara Robertson, Madeline Robinson, and Thomas (Stephanie Knowles) Robinson; and great-grandson Greyson. Steve also left behind many nieces and nephews that he loved spending time with. He is survived by sister-in-law Doris Osesky of Winnipeg and brother-in-law Jim Fustey of Vancouver.
Steve moved to Winnipeg after marrying Margaret in 1956, and worked for CNR Intermodal Transportation from 1957 until he retired in 1991.
Steve was active in sports in his younger years, playing baseball, hockey and curling, but he especially loved playing cards. He played all games for the fun of it, not just to win, but to enjoy the game. He actively helped establish the River-Osborne Community Centre in Fort Rouge, coached baseball teams and brought his team out for ice-cream to celebrate after every game - win or lose. He believed in leading by example.
Steve simply loved life, and lived his life to the fullest. He will always be remembered for his beaming smile and good humour. He was the kind of man you would like the very first time you met him, and he made you happy just by seeing him. The world is a little dimmer without his presence.
Words cannot express our deep gratitude to Dr. Samuel Smal and his caring healthcare staff. We would also like to express our thanks and gratitude for the kind, compassionate care he received in his final weeks from everyone at Jocelyn House Hospice. For those who wish to do so, donations to Jocelyn House Hospice, in Steve's memory, would be appreciated.
Steve has been cremated and was interred with Margaret on February 10.
Due to today's restrictions, a virtual Celebration of Life will be held to honour this remarkable man on Friday, February 18 at 1:00 p.m. CST.

  • We'll remember Uncle Steve as a gentle, kind, compassionate soul who always greeted us with open arms and a mischievous grin. His special gift to the world was that, in any situation, he always knew just what to say to make us all laugh. Our hearts were always lighter and life was better and happier when Uncle was around. We will miss his sunny disposition, infectious smile, and witty teasing. He will live on in our hearts forever... All Our Love, Jeannie & Stu - Posted by: Jeannie Marino (niece) on: Feb 19, 2022
