PENNY DAVIS
July 31, 1951 - February 1, 2022
It is with pronounced sadness and weighted hearts that we announce the passing of Penelope "Penny" Lois Davis (Kunkel). On February 1, 2022, the wind was removed from our sails when angels soared and guided Penny home. Holding her hand until the very end was her forever doting husband, her adored son Andy, her cherished daughter Launi (Cam) and her "favourite" child Jessi (Gerr).
Penny was most known for her fierce love and devotion to her family who she worked to make proud every day with infinite success. Wally and Penny, who were married for nearly 49 years, had an unwavering love built on admiration, respect, devotion and teamwork making mutual goals and dreams attainable and, in most cases, actualized. Wally walked to the beat of Penny's drum encouraged by the twinkle in her eye that never ceased. The spark that joint Wally and Penny that started so many years ago became indescribably stronger year after year and will no doubt live on in Wally's heart.
Penny's love and dedication to her children was unrelenting, akin to the grandest star in the nights sky; forever present, forever bright and forever shining above their heads. Penny's three children admired every piece of her being, aspiring to make her beam with pride, which she did without compromise. Penny's six grandchildren were loved beyond comprehension, filling her with great pleasure, laughter and joy. Penny was compared to a superhero often, but most notably by her grandchildren.
While Penny's family was the "apple in her eye", she also had great love for her siblings and their families as well as loyalty to good and lasting friendships, of which there were many. Penny also dedicated herself professionally to healing through her warm hands as a nurse. As a highly esteemed ER nurse, Penny went on to secure a Masters in Education (1995) where little time elapsed before she became one of the most admired professors at the U of M in the Faculty of Nursing. Known for her classy attire, beautifully manicured nails and unfounded intelligence, Penny was very well respected in her field. Outside of her professional walls, Penny was known for being a pro golfer, an established crochet wizard, a passionate reader, a marksman at pie throwing, a terrible cyclist, an animal lover, a routine sun bather, a professional wine tester with a fear of rice but a love for seafood. While Penny was a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a grandmother and a friend, she was also the glue that bound family ties and the rock her family leaned against for stability and composure. Navigating life will be difficult for all of those she leaves behind, but Penny will no doubt find a way to guide those she loved, one nudge at a time.
Penny's departure was far too early which will leave a hole in all of our hearts, but for as long as the sun shines and the moon glows, we know she isn't far. Please raise a glass of wine (preferably not rice wine) to celebrate a life well lived, a heart well-loved and a soul that will shine strong for eternity.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living
my mommy you'll be
(Robert Munch,1986)

I'm so sorry for the late message. I was shocked to hear the passing of dearest Penny. My deepest condolences to the family. My husband and I used to visit them to vaccinate their dogs. I still remember her in the Faculty of Nursing, with her elegancy and big smile on her face, and nice chats. You will be missed my dear. :-( - Posted by: Iptisam Alexanders (Friend & Co worker) on: May 10, 2023

Sincere sympathy to all the Davis family from all of us. Penny and I shared some good times when the kids were little. Being on the quiet side, she always made a point of including me in conversations at hockey games etc. Just an example of her kindness. Hoping good memories will help you through the days ahead. As I write this I’m thinking back with memories of Penny. Smart, hard working, beautiful Penny. She welcomed you to her home or cottage. We shared some good discussions and many a laugh. I miss her already. Alan and Candy - Posted by: Alan Brown (Friend) on: Feb 12, 2022
