HERB ALEXANDER SCHWANKE
October 19, 1937 - February 9, 2022

With his daughters by his side, Herb lost his brief battle with Mesothelioma.
He is predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Darlene, and his daughter Patti who also succumbed to cancer.
Herb is survived by his daughters, Cathy (Bill), Cheryl (Lance), Tehilla (Dan); and many grandchildren, Lauren (Ryan), Jordan (Cora), Dustin (Lisa), Matthew, Tamir, Allen (Lori), Shirelle (Junior), Dale, Paige (Rob), Derek, Nessia; and great-grandchildren, Kolby, Rowdy, David and Vivi.
Our Dad (Grumpy Grandpa) was bigger than life and a perpetual volunteer, from coaching and refereeing ringette, driving dignitaries around for Folklorama, and many other events he was always willing to help. And don't forget his love for Triumph sports cars!
Herb over the past eight years enjoyed traveling to Mexico with his companion Ruth.
Thank you to the Palliative Homecare and Unit staff at St. Boniface Hospital for all their care over the past month.
A Celebration of Life will be postponed until this summer.

  • Great guy had many conversations with him. - Posted by: Ray Berryman (Friend) on: Mar 17, 2022

  • We are so sorry to learn of Herb’s passing. Your dad has been our dear neighbor and friend for over 20 years. He was very special to us and we watched his health decline with great sadness. Used to love hearing him start up his sports car and go for a ride. More often than not he would end up back at our place complaining that it still didn’t run right and he and Denis would talk about it for a while in the gazebo. Will miss the visits across the field and the house will forever be Herb’s in our hearts. Thank you for being such a good friend, Herb. So happy that you will finally see Darlene, Patti and Your faithful dog Benny again. Love you and miss you.
