I knew Odd while we were graduate students in Zoology, and we reconnected many years later. I will always remember Odd as a gentle, kind person with eclectic tastes and talents. Scientist, entrepreneur, father, musician, gourmand, friend. His passing was a shock. I wish for his family strength, healing and peace. Aye - Posted by: William Diehl-Jones (Friend) on: Feb 11, 2023

Sad news that's just arrived in Australia. Odd and I were room mates with Tim on the 3rd floor apartment, off Pembina Highway. He was doing his MSc with Geoff Eales and I'd just arrived to start mine with Jack Gee. Odd was very patient with me being so naive of away from home. I remember how smart he was and how forgetful he was! And what a great guy to introduce me to Canada. - Posted by: Iain Suthers (Room-mate as postgrads) on: Jan 24, 2023

I just learned the sudden passing of Dr. Odd Bres this morning. It is a shocking and sad news. I have known Dr. Odd Bres since 1993 when he was a postdoctoral fellow. Over the years we kept in touch through his venture as a funder of the Northern Bioidentification Service Ltd, and the Technology Manager at the Technology Transfer Office at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Odd Bres was kind, super smart, and always wanted to help. It is a loss for the UM TTO and technology transfer field, and a loss of a good friend. - Posted by: Ma Luo (Colleague and Friend) on: Mar 23, 2022

Our condolences to you Barb and to your family at the sudden, and much too early, death of Odd. Especially, please pass on our sympathy to Odd's children, Alexander, Erika and William. You kids were at our place once or twice when you were still in elementary school but I don't imagine you remember us. Your dad played chamber music with us and another friend (2 flutes, 'cello and harpsichord) on a very regular basis in the early '80s. We cherish those memories of good music and companionship. Odd was very good at keeping in touch with his old friends on their birthdays which would result in his stopping in for lunch or coffee with us once a year (although unfortunately not in 2021...another casualty of Covid). At those times he always spoke of you children with love and much pride. We hope that the memories of your time with your dad will get you through these hard days. Sincerely, Deanna and Ted Wiens - Posted by: Ted and Deanna Wiens (Colleague (T)and friends (T&D)) on: Feb 25, 2022

I knew Odd when his children were young and I was so impressed by his deep devotion to them. I'd never known a dad who could play with his kids on the playground in such a playful and uninhibited way. And, as many people noted in the video of his memorial service, Odd was an exceptionally kind man. My condolences to you Alexander, Erika, and William. You have lost a wonderful father far too soon. - Posted by: Patti Barss (friend) on: Feb 25, 2022

Though I did not work directly with Odd, I knew him through our time in the former Zoology Department and his time in the Technology Transfer Office. He always had a smile and a moment to say hello. I will miss seeing him in the hallways - U of M is less of a community without him. You have my deepest sympathy through this difficult time. Sincerely, Darren - Posted by: Darren Gillis (Colleague) on: Feb 24, 2022

Just an absolutely wonderful person who would immediately put you at ease just by talking with him. A person who would always put a smile on your face and make your day just that little bit better. Sincerely condolences especially to Barb and William, Alexander and Erika as well as friends and family. - Posted by: Rodney Daniel bolianaz (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2022

I had not seen this sad news until I received a notice that the U of M was lowering the flag in memoriam of Odd. I concur with Erwin and Gary - Odd was a highly personable guy with a large smile and a really endearing nature plus some great ideas on how to carry out transfer of technology from the lab to end-users. I am saddened to learn of his passing and send condolences to his family. - Posted by: Martin Scanlon (Friend, work colleague) on: Feb 22, 2022

I am so shocked to hear of Odd's death so young! We had a long relationship and friendship over his many years in the Zoology Department. I enjoyed his pleasant personality. humor and enthusiasm. A talented and committed scientist. My condolences to his family, wishing you strength in this time of grief. Erwin - Posted by: Erwin Huebner (Friend and Colleague) on: Feb 21, 2022
