DENNIS CLARK HALFORD
November 23, 1936 - February 12, 2022
Dennis passed away peacefully at Poseidon Care Centre, on February 12, 2022.
He will be missed deeply by his sons, Kyle (Ana Maria) and Marc (Bonnie); grandchildren, Kyra and Connor; partner Maureen; step-children, Sandra, Hal, and Tannis; in-laws, Emily and Al (Shirley); many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Isabel; his wife Gaye; and his son Kevin.
Dennis was born, raised and lived his life in Winnipeg. He grew up on Hillcrest Avenue in Norwood, attending Queen Elizabeth School, and graduating from Norwood Collegiate, before stints at United College, University of Manitoba and University of Florida.
Throughout his life Dennis was an avid and accomplished sports enthusiast. In addition to being a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, he played high level competitive baseball with the Norwood Community Club, Elmwood Junior then Senior Giants, as well as Junior A hockey with the Winnipeg Rangers and Manitoba Bisons. He also played juvenile football with the Champlain Flyers.
Dennis went on to marry Flin Flon import Gaye, his loving wife of 38 years. With Gaye they raised a family of three boys (and a sequence of German Shepherds), enjoying family trips to Flin Flon, Minneapolis (to watch baseball of course) and the Dunstone's cottage. They also enjoyed gardening and golfing together at Niakwa Country Club.
For a period of about 20 straight years, Dennis would pass on his accumulated sports knowledge as "Coach Halford" for his three sons and their neighbourhood friends. On any given weeknight or weekend, depending on the season, you'd have to drop by a hodgepodge of hockey rinks or baseball fields to track him down.
Professionally, Dennis was the sole owner/operator of "Halford's Gentlemen's Fine Clothing" from 1971 to 2004. His small retail shop focused on personal customer service, resulting in a loyal clientele, all feeling treated like family by Dennis and his long time tailors, Gav and Teddy.
The second act of Dennis's adult life really began with his introduction to Maureen in January, 2003. Overcoming losing track of his car in a movie theatre parking lot on an early date, they went on to form a very close bond and accorded Dennis an extended family with whom he enjoyed spending time with at Falcon Lake and their family home. Maureen introduced Dennis to a new love for travel, going to Florida for nine winters, as well as trips to England, Spain, Italy, and a once in a lifetime Danube/Rhine River cruise.
Dennis also loved his simple interactions with friends and family the Thursday morning breakfasts with the guys, weekly crib games at Niakwa, group outings to the Goldeyes games, or simply puttering around in their backyard garden and having a beer on the deck.
A service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery (455 Lagimodiere Blvd).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba in memory of Dennis.

My connection to Dennis goes back to the days at Robert Castling of Winnipeg, right next to the old Capital Theatre on Portage Avenue, where Dennis was one of the sales people. I was doing the audit there, Miss Pringle looked after the books at the back of the store and Teddy and Gav were in the basement! Most of the well dressed men in Winnipeg acquired a Warren K. Cook suit and accessories from that store and once I became a partner I followed suit (no pun intended) as the business moved to a little white brick building on Donald and then to the Scotia Tower on Broadway. My wife and I curled with other couples, Dennis and Gaye included, at a Sunday nite curling league at the Heather Curling Club...I lost track of Dennis after he retired but see from comments others made that he was active in many things which brought him joy and delight...I think I still have one suit hanging in my closet from his store and a myriad of ties, which always drew compliments...sincere condolences to his surviving family, Allan Webster - Posted by: Allan Webster (Friend) on: Feb 26, 2022

Bob and Dennis go back many years, but for the last 20 years had been faithful Goldeye game attendees and “coaches” those games included conversations about many things … the world, politics, other sports etc .. bountiful evenings! Our group of folks had started with around 10 and dwindled down to two in the last years Dennis was a good solid man and appreciated his friends and family. Maureen offered Dennis with some unexpected joy and he so appreciated her willingness to share with him, some wonderful trips around the country and abroad. Dennis was a quality person who enjoyed and admired his family and friends. We are grateful he is now at peace. Thank you Dennis for your friendship and thank you Maureen for keeping us in touch on how Dennis was doing, in his final days. - Posted by: Bob and Jo-Anne Lowenberger (Friends ) on: Feb 23, 2022
