MERRILL STANGE
(nee HENDERSON)
We wish to share that our beautiful mother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, Merrill, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Valentine's Day, February 14, 2022 in Winnipeg at the age of 91.
Merrill will always be loved and forever remembered by her daughter Tracey; nephew Craig (Linda); niece Vikki; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Stange and Mary Hamilton; she will always be auntie Merrill to Douglas, Cameron, Keira, Sasha, Jackson, Gabriel and Spencer, along with countless extended family members. She was predeceased by husband Bernard Stange; son Mark Stange and brother Jack Henderson.
Merrill was a free spirit who valued independence, the simple pleasures of life and the people around her. She was renowned for her flamboyant style and uncanny ability to express her creativity through knitting exceptional one of a kind works of art garments for family and friends, a jewellery collection curated with outstanding unique pieces (she loved Silver Lotus) and her wardrobe, filled with pieces representing her flair for fashion and sense of humour. She had a sharp wit, quick intelligence and laughter was her constant companion. She also had a competitive spirit and an affinity for history. This was a perfect formula for rousing family games of Trivial Pursuit (she always won). Merrill loved music, movies, travel and all facets of the arts.
She shared all this with her kindred spirit, Bern. Together they built a wonderful life. They were each other's best friend and their love and respect for one another was enduring. Sadly, Bern passed away in 1994, just one year after Merrill retired from her job at the Continuing Education Department at the University of Manitoba. She filled her days volunteering at various non-profits, helping individuals in need and spending time with family and dear friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Ball and the caregivers and staff from Golden Links Lodge who cared for Merrill and supported her family in her final days.
Cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
We love you, Merrill. Your memory and beautiful smile will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
