GORDON CAMPBELL HUTCHESON

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gordon on February 22, 2022.
Gord is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan, sons, James (Cheryl), Ian (Marie), daughters, Lisa (David), Barbara (Jeff), grandchildren, Jarrett (Kelsey), Melissa, Breann, Lauren, and great-grandchild Brooks. Also left to remember are his brother-in-law Dr. Ian Morrow, and family whom were, and are, very close.
Gordon was an only child and was born and raised in St. James, Winnipeg under the strict guidance of his Scottish parents. Gordon's mother doted on him and instilled a love of music which he would embrace his entire life. Interestingly, he was a classically trained pianist, graduated from the Royal Canadian Conservatory of Music with a degree. Did not see that one coming! Gordon's life path veered off from music and decided the Hotel Business was for him. He started his career at the Royal Alexander in Winnipeg, the Crown Jewel in the CP Hotel Chain at the time. Gordon achieved the position of assistant manager. Then it was off to Brandon, MB and a position as General Manager of the Canadian Inn. There Gordon built a solid reputation which culminated in his award of Manitoba Hotel Man of the Year for three consecutive years. Many years passed and many travels made got the family back home and roots were replanted.
Upon Gordon's final retirement he and Joan decided that a place at the lake was the ticket and they made their nest at Whytewold Beach on Vine Avenue. Gordon and Joan loved their summer home and was made so special at every visit from the kids and especially the grandkids. They made many friends down there and if you close your eyes for a minute you can still hear newly invented language on chore's day and maybe a waff of his favourite stogie. Gordon's other passion in life was the Western Canadian Aviation Museum where he volunteered for 17 years and made lifelong friends among the staff. His fond memories and gift for story telling served him well in imparting the attributes of the planes and their history in western Canada. Old age is a milestone to achieve but to have forged 95 years is a gift. What tremendous events Gordon witnessed in his life from world wars to lasting peace. At the end, his memories were harder to grasp and that was hard on him. He put up a great fight and went out on his own terms.
With thanks to the staffs of both the Grace Hospital, which I believe he had garnered a lot of frequent flier points, and the staff of the Victoria Hospital at the end. Gordon, you kept true to our family motto, " MEMOR ESTO".
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Gordon's life will take place every day henceforth!
If you wish to donate the family has chosen the Alzeimer Society.

As you said, ninety five years is a gift, and the last twenty five seem to have been good ones.
