DONALD LAWRENCE MONTGOMERY
Donald Lawrence Montgomery passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022, with his daughter Diane by his side.
Left to cherish his memory are his family, Glen (Susan), Diane Jolly (Andrew), and Grant (Orelund), his grandchildren, Kevin Jolly (Krystal), Raine and Myrrhan Montgomery, and great-grandchildren, Kayden, Konnor and Kolten Jolly. Don also leaves many nephews and nieces to remember him fondly. Don was predeceased by his parents, William and Rose, his three older brothers, Lloyd, Bill and Ed, his beloved wife of 63 years, Marion, and his daughter Patricia.
Don was born in Winnipeg August 30, 1931. He grew up in the North End and started working at the age of 16 at Chronkhites Wholesale. He and Marion were married in 1954 and transferred to Brandon, Edmonton and finally back to Winnipeg with Cronkhites. He cherished his work experiences gained there. The three older children started school in the North End, with the family moving to Westwood in 1968 when Grant was born. They lived in Westwood for over 50 years, forging many lifelong friendships along the way. Don and Marion were active at the John the 23rd and St. Charles parishes.
Don was an entrepeneur and inventor. He bought a manufacturers agency in 1970 and later purchased Allied Electric Motor & Pump, which he retired from in 1990. He held patents on a few of his inventions, and his creativity developed and morphed over the years to include writing and publishing a few books. His mind was always looking for that next challenge!
We have fond memories of travelling all over the US and Canada with mom and dad, camping, hunting for precious rocks and minerals, seeing many landmarks that we would never have seen otherwise and having lots of family fun along the way. After retirement, he and Marion had a trailer at Netley Creek where they spent many summers. Dad enjoyed music, learning the saxophone and playing in the Assiniboine adult band. After mom passed away in 2017, he moved to Cathedrale Manoir in St. Boniface where he fancied himself the social convener of the building. He organized music nights and liked spinning old tunes for his fellow residents!
The family would like to thank Rhonda and all the staff at Cathedrale Manoir and his close friends Jan and Larry for their patience and kindness with dad over the past five years. We would also like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Cathy and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital who looked after dad in his last few weeks. Your kindness in this trying time of Covid was greatly appreciated.
If friends desire, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society in Don's memory. Cremation has taken place and interment will follow at a later date.

My condolences to Diane, Glen, Grant and your extended family members. I remember Mr. Montgomery as an intelligent man. Pattie and I used to visit your dad at work, when Glen worked with your dad. We would often comment on how resourceful your dad was when it came to solving problems, or coming up with ideas. Your dad was a nice man, and always kind to people. May you wonderful memories of your father always bring a smile to your face! Regards, Tracy(Trixie) - Posted by: Tracy (Trixie) (Friend) on: Feb 27, 2022
