Hank acquired the collected magic square works of John Hendricks when he moved to Victoria, and later when I joined St. Paul's College in the late 1990's, found me as an eager collector of that material. I was just beginning a change of research direction through Jungian psychology and Jung's interest in the ancient Chinese magic square. I later published several research papers that connected with my quantum physics background, and remain widely read. - Posted by: Peter Loly (former co) on: Apr 05, 2022

Dear Janet, Paul and Doug Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of a dear longtime family friend and esteemed colleague Hank Finlayson. I came to know Hank when I along with my family (wife Vydehi and daughter Indu) came to Winnipeg in the year 1967 to teach in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Manitoba. I found Hank to be a person of solid faith, love for everyone, who never spoke a harsh word and was beloved by all. You must all miss him, his ever-joyous face radiating hope and courage. I know how much he loved you all. Our heartfelt condolences to you and all your family members (Ven) Venkataraman - Posted by: R. Venkataraman (Colleague) on: Mar 04, 2022

Hank was a kind gentle man. I consider myself lucky to have known him. I got to know him through having lunch with him often at St. Paul's College at University of Manitoba. I remember once that he and his wife were taking a plane to Calgary. His wife was having getting him to go to their cab to the airport because of the students who wanted to talk to him. Truly a selfless person. - Posted by: Kenneth Mount (Colleague at University of Manitoba) on: Mar 03, 2022

We are so sorry to hear the sad news. He was one of our first friends when we came to Winnipeg from India in 1965. We have retired to Texas now but we were in contact with him over the phone. I phoned him just a week ago and left a message but did not know he was ill. Our condolences to Janet, Paul and Doug and their families. It is a great loss. He was such a gentle man and a true gentleman. Uma, Mangalam and Raji - Posted by: Uma and Mangalam Parameswaran (Friend) on: Mar 03, 2022
