Leonard Armstrong
July 10, 1935 - February 20, 2022
Len was born in Miniota, Manitoba. Shortly after Len's birth, the family moved to Winnipeg. Len and his older brother Claude spent many summers in Beulah helping on the family farm. In Winnipeg, they grew up near the legislative buildings in the Ruth Apartments. Both Len and Claude sang in the St. Matthews Anglican Church and attended cubs and scouts. In 1950, the Armstrong family moved to St. James where Len attended St. James Collegiate. After graduating high school, Len began his career with Manitoba Telephone Systems where he worked until he retired. Although Len worked in the city for most of his career, he found his way back to the country where Natalie and Michael were born and raised on a farm south of Anola. He immersed himself in the community and used his carpenter skills to help build the Anola Community Centre. Throughout his life, Len would build two of his homes - the second one near Monominto - North of Stein-bach where he and Christa resided. During his retirement, Len found a new passion in golf, a sport he excelled at and loved. Len and Christa became members of the Steinbach Fly- in Golf Club where he also worked part time in the pro shop. To extend the golf season, he and Christa would head to Mesa, AZ to escape Manitoba's winter and hit a few more balls and relax by the pool. Len will be fondly remembered by many whose path he crossed. From his time at MTS, to his legendary spoon playing at poker derbies, to his farming days in Anola, and his times at the Golf Club - Len lived a life of variety filled with many characters along the way. "Third boxcar - midnight train, destination Bangor: Maine". Forever our King of the Road.
Cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will happen later. Thanks to the Doctors and nurses at Ste. Anne Hospital for their care.
