RITA THERESE RONDEAU
(née DURAND)
February 23, 1938 - February 26, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rita at her home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Marielle (Art Swain), Ronald and Andre; daughter-in-law Shelley; grandchildren, Kayla, Ryler (Katrina), Michelle, Rachelle, and Aaron; brothers, Noël (Cécile) Durand, Luc (Wilma) Durand; sister-in-law Hilda, brother-in-law Damien; and numerous, nieces, nephews, friends, and care givers.
Rita was predeceased by her husband Etienne; son Normand; grandsons, Logan and Jeremy; sisters-in-law, Muriel, Yvette, and Irène; brothers-in-law, Bertrand Lebeau, George Côté, and Noël Pilloud.
Rita was born on the farm in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba and grew up in town. After graduating from high school in 1956 she taught at St. Louis School for a year. She married Etienne Rondeau of St. Leon, MB on July 2, 1957. Together they operated a mixed farm and raised their four children. Rita was a talented seamstress; she also loved to knit and crochet. She tended to a huge garden; canned, pickled, preserved, and froze an abundance of fruit and vegetables. She was an excellent cook, known for her awesome home-made bread and pies. The cold storage and freezers were stocked year-round. When the kids were grown, she worked for Homecare as a personal care aid. Following her stroke in 2003, Rita and Etienne moved to St. Boniface.
The family would like to thank everyone for the care, respect and support given to Rita over the years and thereby making it possible for her to live at home. To the Boundary Trails Rehab and Community Homecare staff thanks for making Rita's return to living at home happen; to the WHRA Homecare personal care aids, nurses and housekeeping staff, thank you for the thoughtful quality of care, to the case, resource and scheduling coordinators, thanks for supporting her home care plan; to the Community Therapy Services occupational, physio, and speech therapy staff your professional input maximized Rita's independence and quality of life and was truly appreciated; to Dr. Ball, Sabina and Susan at the St. Boniface Clinic, words are not enough to express our gratitude for the exemplary care and guidance provided to both Rita and Etienne; and to all the staff at Leclerc Pharmacy a huge thank you for the awesome service you provided. A very special thank you to Pat Brooks for the unwavering care, support and friendship given to Rita.
As per Rita's wishes cremation has occurred, with a funeral service to follow at a later date in St. Leon, MB.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Rita's memory to the MB Heart & Stroke Foundation, MB Possible, or to a charity of your choice. Be gracious to others and kind to yourself.
