MARGARET ELOISE HEWITT

Margaret Eloise (Ronnander) Hewitt took the final steps of her 96 year journey as she quietly crossed over to the "other side" on March 3, 2022.
Waiting to welcome her will be her parents, brother (Roy), husband (Norm), son (Cal) and many dear friends. Remaining earth side to hold her memories are daughters, Carolyn Sigfusson, Pam Gorman (Kelly); grandchildren, Mike, Matt (Sam), Amy (Teun) and great-grandchildren, Jack, Lucy, Gus, and Onyx.
Marg was born in Winnipeg on July 14, 1925 to her Swedish immigrant parents, Gus and Margaret Ronnander. She was raised to be proud of her heritage which was obvious by her many family heirlooms and her famous Swedish meatballs.
Marg attended Success Business College where she met her future husband, Norm. They wed in 1948 and Marg worked as a "vacation relief" secretary until starting a family in 1952. After having three children, Marg was ready to return to the workforce and was hired by the Manitoba Government in 1961. She loved working in the Legislative Building and quickly earned a reputation for her exceptional office management skills. She brought joy to the workplace with antics like roller skating down the hallways in a Santa suit at Christmas. Never a dull moment! Marg was actively involved in politics and made many lifelong friends during those memorable years. She retired in 1982 but was recruited to serve as a member on the Highway Traffic Board from 1988 to 1997, which took her all over Manitoba.
Marg remained active post-retirement as she believed in living life to the fullest and with no regrets. She was involved with the legion, spent time at the family cabin, took up golfing, was always up for an adventure, and loved to travel...especially on casino trips where she was consistently lucky! She eventually bought a mobile home in Florida and would hop in her car and drive down every January. Her door was always open to family and friends in need of a winter warm up. As busy as she was, Marg always put family first. She was a safety net for her children as they navigated life and was the coolest grandma ever, making every visit special and full of fun. Thus, Amy decided "Granny Girl" would be a perfect nickname.
Marg believed the secret to a long life was being surrounded by family and good friends and never wasting time with worries. Apparently, she was right! She always said that she hoped when her time came, she could just go peacefully in her sleep and made sure we knew she had a wonderful life.
Many thanks to the incredibly devoted staff at Oakview for the excellent care they provided over the years. We are truly grateful!
A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date, but feel free to raise a glass in a toast to a favourite memory of Marg.
